Great quilt franie I love the blocks and the border fabric

wildyard 06-29-2010 06:29 PM

I agree that I like the bottom one best also.

bearisgray 06-29-2010 06:46 PM

Just noticed that you have another fabric with the white one.

mom-6 06-29-2010 08:16 PM

Like the second option best, but not totally happy with it.
I think I would either go with a solid corner or do a 4 patch with the two small white squares leading the eye into the center.
or...maybe use the diamondy square in a square block for your cornerstone?

The small white square just doesn't look properly proportioned to everything else, although I see your reason for trying to echo the 'arrow' look of the main blocks.

jljack 06-29-2010 08:23 PM

I like the bottom one, but it needs another light square on the corner.

Added: Yes, I looked again, and that little white square by itself looks unbalanced, like it's just hanging there. It's distracting. Either use more of the red print or do a 4 patch with another white square to balance the white square.

Both of the little white squares look "too little/annoying/off" to me.

But I can't quite explain why. I think it might be that they are small in proportion to the corner square in the fancy border right inside that last border.

I agree with bearisgray...I don't however, have any bright ideas on what to put instead....but I do love this design and your colours.

amalia64 06-29-2010 10:55 PM

I have not done a lot of quilting but I agree with BKrenning

Cornelia 06-30-2010 12:58 AM

I love your quilt great colors and I prefer number 2

hdqltr 06-30-2010 02:26 AM

I would use the dark red, but I wouldn't put it where you currently have it planned -- I would move it back to where the two diamont borders meet. Good luck!

smagruder 06-30-2010 03:03 AM

I like the first one but either would work. I love the quilt. It is so pretty.

I like the white idea for the corner stone. Why not make it a double corner stone. squares joined at each corner, rather than the straight sides.

Have a peaceful day.

Like the top one, however I like this idea of making the corner stone bearisgray has written.

BethD 06-30-2010 04:23 AM

Beautiful quilt! I like the first one best but even a diamond shape like you have in the rest of the quilt in brown/white as the cornerstone would look very nice.

mannem 06-30-2010 04:23 AM

Everybody here is so nice and complimentary. Franie must have her doubts about the corner stone or she wouldn't have asked or maybe she just asks around to have her opinion confirmed? I think this is a great quilt and a little skimpy white square would ruin the overall look. So there, now crucify me.

skkrmk 06-30-2010 04:26 AM

I like the top one, but I would make the white square bigger or at least the same size as the dark fabic square in the corner. It think it would have more balance that way.

SharynH 06-30-2010 04:33 AM

I think a square in a square like in the border would look great. What a beautiful quilt!!!

jeanneb52 06-30-2010 04:48 AM

I love the quilt....cornerstone 4 patch?

misoop 06-30-2010 05:04 AM

That is one beautiful quilt...doesn't it feel good to know that you're getting right??? I like the top one best.

Lyn 06-30-2010 05:08 AM

Not to be a pain in the rump but that quilt is beautiful but my eyes are drawn to the white square and not the overall quilt. Maybe go with a different color or just stay with the brown.

steelecg 06-30-2010 05:11 AM

me too

I think the cornerstone on the pieced border needs to be the red, and the cornerstone on the outer border needs to be all white - not pieced. It's a beautiful quilt - your color selections are great!

Diana 06-30-2010 05:48 AM

I would do both.....that would draw the eye from the brown corner out to the edge of the border corner. Hope I clear on this, in other words do one white small square and then diangonally another. The one white small square looks a little lost with the beautiful brown fabric around it. Since you prefer not to have a solid brown or solid white full corner stone, the two diagonal small squares would balance....
You have created a gorgeous quilt. Absolutely beatiful.
I would like to see the whole quilt, or some of the other squares....Great job.

First one if you're going to use one. Beautiful quilt!!!!!

zactanls 06-30-2010 06:04 AM

I like the bottom one

polly13 06-30-2010 06:21 AM

Your explanation of the added binding makes sense. My choice is the top one.

Debbie B 06-30-2010 06:42 AM

Beautiful quilt with beautiful colors. I prefer the top one.

insecurity 06-30-2010 06:42 AM

I vote for #2. It will make a neat "block"where it comes together

Ragann63 06-30-2010 06:48 AM

Of the two, the bottom, but I would actually prefer no corner at all, just use the frame. Gives more emphasis to the quilt, the small white corner takes your eye away from the quilt and becomes a focal point.

bstanbro 06-30-2010 07:10 AM

Definitely the top one.

insecurity 06-30-2010 07:12 AM

I think some of you are only seeing the white fabric and not the little block surrouding it!

Oh my Lord, there are lots of suggestions here!
How about putting a white square on point...larger. Like you have in the inner border in brown. Just reverse the colors.

To my eye, the small scale of that white square is off... it does not seem like it is relating to the rest of the border treatment.
Does that make sense?

The quilt is gorgeous, BTW! great job and   for hanging in there through the tough spots!

mkay 06-30-2010 07:41 AM

I like the top one.mkay

I like this idea, too! Beautiful quilt, by the way1

Sandra-P 06-30-2010 09:19 AM

I like #1 and I agree to change the size of white square. Beautiful work!

franie 06-30-2010 09:21 AM

No way! Your opinion is valued and appreciated!

mayday 06-30-2010 09:23 AM

top one.

franie 06-30-2010 09:25 AM

Back to the drawing board. I am trying something dif I think as I do agree the scale might be off. And the white takes the eye from the middle part of the quilt. See I took all of your suggestions into consideration. Every post was read and considered so far. I just might leave it all brown. Maybe change that one corner stone on the pieced border. I can't believe I am fussing with it so late in the game!
