For the Boomerang 6 - Winter group I think I'll only use a couple patterns this time. See what it's like to use the same pattern over and over with just a little variety when the fabric "speaks" to me to do something else.

In a boomerang swap, there are groups of either 18 or 36 swappers. (I'm in a group of 36 again) You mail a F8 (11" x 18" ) of your fabric to the other members in your group. They in turn mail you a piece of their fabric. Everyone makes a 12 1/2" block to mail back to the F8 owner....you choose the block you want to make and the coordinating fabrics. Some swappers give a few guidelines to follow so all their blocks will be somewhat uniform.

We have a thread in the swap section where you can see eveyone's blocks they have received. In order to keep them a surprise until the receiver sees them, we don't generally post our "made" blocks to that thread. Some of us though want to share our work with everyone else too.

This is where I'll post my blocks as I make them. I'll notify the receiver on our main swap page and give them the chance to peek (I'll tell them what page their block is on in this thread :) ) if they want to see them before they arrive at their house.

I hope you enjoy these blocks...I've learned so much by working on them. These are the first 2 of this swap...33 more to come in the next 4 months (blocks are due back to their owners by 02/01/12).

This pattern is "Birds in the Air" off the Quiltercache website under the 12" finished block section.

Thanks so much for checking these out. Please feel free to bookmark this thread so you can check out my progress if you'd like to.

fromzstore -- black swirly fabric with pop of red

paintmejudy -- green leaf fabric -- for a young girls quilt so I thought "kiss a lot of frogs" on the way would be a great combo

Here's my block for Quiltingnurse. Her swirly fabric really was a difficult choice of what block to make...everything seemed to go with it. Hope she likes my final choice. It's heading home on 10/24.

Nancia....get'r in the mail girlfriend and we'll see what happens.

Jennifer...boy do I have some purples for you...sure hope you like it....there's a few before yours but I have the fabric already pulled for it.

ok, i have a question for you all: i tend to do fairly simple blocks. does anyone feel like that looks as if i didn't put enough effort into it? i feel confident i will get the simpler blocks right and give you a fairly well done block. i was reading another thread and people were disappointed if they received a simple block. would you rather have a well done block or a fancy block? in time i'll be more confident and branch out, but i don't want to delay everyone while i struggle with new blocks. please, let me know how you feel!

sandrabrueggeman 10-24-2011 01:24 AM

They are all so pretty.

Nancia -- these are just HST arranged differently...it's amazing how many patterns you can come up with just a simple little starting point. I actually paper piece the HST so they are "squared" (check out block central for a template...let me know if you can't find it and I'll find the link again). If someone is disappointed by a "simple" block it's their ego problem...everyone starts somewhere (like me) and each block is made with care and attention. I will try "harder" ones sometimes when I want to but I'm sticking with just a few patterns this time around so I can get them done.

The only time I've been disappointed is when the block is actually only 12" instead of the 12.5 needed...it's hard to figure out how to make it bigger by just a small amount and not ruin the block scheme...but all the other blocks thrill me.

nancia 10-24-2011 02:06 PM

thanks, moonwork!

Marcialee sent the dark purple fabric.

It will be heading home on Wed 10/26/11

nancia 10-25-2011 09:49 PM

It's 16 HST ... all 16 have the "feature fabric" and 8 have one coordinating and the other 8 have a different coordinating fabric.

Then you just play around with different layouts. A lot of designs can be broken down into squares...they might look a little different but if it's easier for me to make then so be it ;)

Glad you're liking them

Havplenty 11-05-2011 04:23 PM

great blocks moonwork.

Sending home 3 grownup blocks on Monday 11/07

Missgigglewings had the brown with bright orange flowers

Roseysue had the red with metallic gold stars/snowflakes

And then we have Heyjami...she actually had a small contest for her block as I had "block block" and couldn't decide which one to use of the 3 layouts. Since she "voted" I went ahead and chose her "vote"...seemed only fair :) . Her fabric was the beige with cranberries on it.

So far this doesn't seem too bad to add pictures. Here's crossing my fingers now they all work and the descriptions are with the right pictures.

I'll admit it... I was a slacker the last couple weeks...seems life got in the way :)

Here's a couple blocks to go home though on Monday, 11/28/11. If I'm a good girl I should be able to get a couple more done today too.

NanaKathy55 send in the beige with the blue grid on it. This is my very first scrappy block and I think it is pretty cool. I had heard so much about the scrappy blocks I just had to try one. Hope she enjoys it too.

CyndiH sent a black background with all sorts of colorful dots on it. What could match better than more bright dots? Flyin' dots heading to the west coast.

Oatw13 had some super nice brown fabric with the bright orange flowers. Was so bright and happy to me...hope this is "happy" to her too.

sending out 2 blocks tomorrow -- 12/27

Had the day off so I thought between blowing my nose I'd try to do a couple more blocks. Yeah, only 5 left to do!

Fabric Fancy sent the blue background F8 and only wanted white used with it.

Aully sent a couple 10 x 10 squares that she asked to be matched to a panel she had posted on our main swap page...I sure hope she'll be pleasantly surprised when she see what I found to make her block with. A vest with the same panel design so I had to fussy cut a few squares just for her!

heyjami 01-02-2012 01:55 PM

I don't remember if I told you here but I LOVE my block! Thank you so much! I wanted to do HST assortments too but ended up being a chicken about all the intersections. I'm doing paper piecing but I've had some troubled ones (one ended up being 14"!).
