Great quilt

What she said!!!!

pollyjvan9 05-29-2010 04:56 AM

I would go crazy and do a black border with a twisted "film" appliqued on it.

Mossie 05-29-2010 06:36 AM

I would put a small stop border in white and a finishing border of 4-6 inches in black. More colors on the edges might take away from the fabulous colors in the quilt. Beautiful quilt, by the way!

He's going to love it.

1quilt_gma 05-29-2010 06:41 AM

Beautiful! Rich, vibrant colors!

The fabric from the site above could be used for appliqueing!

Minnie 05-29-2010 08:51 AM

I love it just the way it is. If it was me I would bind in black and call it finished. It is fabulouse as is....Great!!!!!!!!!! job....

bstanbro 05-29-2010 09:13 AM

It's beautiful as is. I don't think I'd add a thing.

tuesy 05-29-2010 10:03 AM

I'd like to say THANK YOU to all of you who helped me with the border color. I tried so many fabrics from my stash and not a one of them jumped out at me, so I just left it alone and started the quilting.
My son came home from school yesterday and said he just loved it and wanted to know if it'd be done today (meaning yesterday). I just looked at him with a stupified look and before I could say anything, he said I guess not. *LOL*
So as soon as I get it binded up I'll post another picture of it.

I did go ahead and do the denim on the back and really it wasn't a problem. It's a lighter weight denim so it worked really well. Thank goodness he didn't pick out jean fabric.

Some of ya'll send links to some awesome fabric... Thank you for taking the time to do that. If I make him another one, I'll be using that one with the movie theme for sure.

Thank you all again :-)

amorerm 05-29-2010 10:04 AM

I'd make a thin 1" or so border and then use a wiser Black border.

GREAT Quilt!! You're son will be sooo proud of it and Mom.

Calico Grammy 05-29-2010 11:57 AM

"Less is More" looks perfect just as it is....and a black border!

JoanneS 05-29-2010 12:06 PM

Frankly, my dear, I think you're finished! And it's beautiful!

foxyquilter 05-29-2010 12:58 PM

I also like it as is. A border will take away from the movie idea. Was this your own creation?

eightylady 05-29-2010 01:32 PM

Sharon, your idea was fantastic!

SandyMac 05-29-2010 04:03 PM

I'd like just black with muilty colored thread or just red thread quilting on black :-D

aurora41 05-29-2010 04:19 PM

Leave it as it is. It does not need a border.
Beautiful work.

LogCabinLady 05-29-2010 04:46 PM

Beautiful quilt. Black is my preference.

theifner 05-29-2010 06:11 PM

Thank you eightylady! Its fun to make suggestions even if they aren't used. :)

I would do either piano keys with all the fabrics in the squares or do 2 inches of black, 2 inch wide bricks of the colors and 2 inches of black, bind in black.

I'm in the process of making one of these right now with black and jewel-toned Fairy Frost in the little squares and two awesomely wild prints in the center squares. I'll be anxious to see what you end up doing with this beautiful quilt!

Annz 05-29-2010 08:13 PM

a nice color from somewhere in the middle of the quilt would be nice.

galvestonangel 05-29-2010 08:36 PM

I can see why your stumped. I think it is beautiful as it is. The quilt is so dramatic you don't want anything taking that away. Good Luck choosing.

Quilter2B 05-29-2010 08:47 PM

this is a beautiful quilt. Any of the bright colors in the quilt would work wonderfully but I agree you should bind it in black. You could just finish it the way it is, it is so beautiful.

galvestonangel 05-29-2010 08:55 PM

I just went to a site that showed a roll of tickets. Make that could give you an idea.

Gerbie 05-29-2010 08:58 PM

tuesy, I like crafty bear's idea at the bottom of page 1, but instead of iron on's, I think I would find a copy of a reel and film like that and get some of the photo fabric that you can run through your computer printer. I would scatter that throughout you quilt border. You wouldn't have to make them very large and could probably get several onto one sheet of photo paper. I think that would really add to the rest of the quiltand continue the theme. It would rally pop I think. If you arent sure, use some paper copies at first to see how you like it. Then bind it in blackyou might use different pieces of our color blocks to put the movie reels on.but I think white with the black and white reels and film would really be neat.

eiltcoq 05-29-2010 11:16 PM

tuesy, I don't think it needs a border. It's a stunning quilt as it is.

I agree. I like it just as it is. I do not think it needs a border.

mistress4taz 05-30-2010 06:08 AM

What a beautiful quilt. I would love that on my bed. What size did you make it? I would use the dark red(burgundy) the one in the outside corner for the border.

iltoaz 05-30-2010 06:17 AM

I like the way it is now. Very unique pattern.

Boston1954 05-30-2010 06:19 AM

A thin strip of the yellow and then some more black.

Rainbow 05-30-2010 12:07 PM

LOVE IT !!

JCL in FL 05-30-2010 01:32 PM

It looks complete as is but if you needed or wanted the extra width and length Id' pick one color and then black binding. If you went with another print you would distract form what is a beautiful quilt. And I wouldn't use denim on the back it will be a bugger to quilt through. I did one quilt with denim and never again. You can hardly turn over!!!

Gerbie 05-30-2010 06:15 PM

I totally agree with JCL of Fl. I wouldn't use denim on the back either. I would opt to using a dark cotton, or if you wanted the denim look maybe a chambray.
I just finished a frayed denim and cotton quilt, that could be reversible, with every other square denim for a friend's 80th birthday. It was a real bugger to sew through and to finish. I had made a denim pineapple pattern quilt about six yrs. ago for my son and had really forgotten just how hard it was sewing on the denim, especially the denim that Levis uses. Believe me both quilts are really heavy and difficult to work with. My daughter likes my sons quilt because in the winter she says she stays warm, because she doesn't really move around and get on the cold side of the bed. We have extremely mild winters here in this part of Tx. My son doesn't like it because it is too heavy to sleep under.

calicocat 05-30-2010 09:25 PM

what is the name of this quilt pattern. It is fabulous! And your work is stunning.

Rina 05-31-2010 05:18 AM

This is very beautiful. I will leave it as it is, but please show us what you did in the end.

dawn payne 05-31-2010 06:53 AM

Stunning!

lynnie 06-03-2010 10:21 AM

I love your quilt the way it is, my type of colors.
If I HAD to add, I'd do a candy stripe border of the leftovers.
Good Luck
It's BEAUTIFUL
