I honestly have no clue! This is for my youngest son as he loves to make movies. I'm stumped on what color I should use though. The pattern calls for a 6 1/2 inch border all the way around.. The backing will be denim as he wanted that "heavy" feeling..
but the border...????? I'm not sure..any ideas?

I personally would like it as is! If you want a border use one of the brights you have in your squares than bind it in black. Just my thoughts! :-D

amocha1 05-28-2010 09:38 AM

It's a beautiful quilt. I would pick the color in the center or the red block as the border. I also agree that you should bind it in black.

Nice Job!!!!

Candace 05-28-2010 09:41 AM

You've got so many colors in the quilt that any bright border would be fine. Personally, I'd just look at what I had in my stash with enough yardage and go for it.

cjomomma 05-28-2010 09:41 AM

I like it as is but if you want a theme maybe the black and white like the ppl use int the movies to start a new scene. I can't think of what the darn thing is called. Sorry.

amma 05-28-2010 09:41 AM

Stunning Quilt!!! :D:D:D
Maybe a 2 inch in one of the darker colors and a 4 inch black. Bind it with another darker color?
I don't think I would use too light a colors, it may be too busy?

stitchinwitch 05-28-2010 09:48 AM

Black!

JackieG 05-28-2010 09:52 AM

Any color will do, but the brights seem to stand out more. I would say whatever you choose that makes the complementing squares "pop"

kathy 05-28-2010 09:53 AM

I love the filmstrip look, maybe a 4-6 inch version in black and white.

mzsooz 05-28-2010 10:05 AM

I would just bind it in black and leave it at that. I love this quilt.

Me too. It looks finished as it is. If you really want to add more to increase the size, what about a piano keys border of all the fabrics, then black binding.

craftybear 05-28-2010 10:08 AM

film strip look in black and white would be awesome!

mrsdralshhadeh 05-28-2010 10:09 AM

I think that another border of a solid,,and then a back would look great.... just my little opinion,,,,

craftybear 05-28-2010 10:11 AM

I like Kathy's suggestion of white & black!

craftybear 05-28-2010 10:17 AM

let us know what you decide as your quilt is awesome!

MoMoSews 05-28-2010 10:18 AM

Popcorn fabric???

littlehud 05-28-2010 10:21 AM

I love it just the way it is. No border at all.

ranger 05-28-2010 10:36 AM

I like the 'film strip' look....very cool!
I like craftybear's idea from the 'crazymomquilts blog.

I agree. I would put a wide border of one of the bright colors, and then on the outside, a narrower black border (the width of the black strips in the quilt) and bind it in black. Fabulous quilt!

sewcrafty 05-28-2010 10:40 AM

Red. You know after the red carpet!!! :-D

patricej 05-28-2010 11:50 AM

i vote for leave it alone. a border would "ruin" it by distracting attention from the detail that's obvious now.

i also vote for black binding.

and for makin' the kid quilt it if he insistes on denim. that's gonna be a lot of hard work.

paintedquilt 05-28-2010 11:59 AM

I like it the way it is too

bronald 05-28-2010 12:03 PM

I love your quilt. I would choose one of the darker fabrics Perhaps the green with the lizard.

katei 05-28-2010 01:17 PM

Don't think it needs anything else, but if you're sure you want to, how about accent border of the bright green and then finish with wider border (and binding) in the black. Fabulous quilt - your son will love this.

LucyInTheSky 05-28-2010 01:29 PM

I would leave it without a border. Or a small black one, if it really needs something... with black binding. It's beautiful as is

StitchinJoy 05-28-2010 01:31 PM

I love it as is. Looks great!

Ditter43 05-28-2010 02:45 PM

I like it the way it is too...You could do a piano keys border with all the colorful fabrics and then bind it in black..just a thought...

Justquilting 05-28-2010 02:48 PM

I like it the way it is!
Just bind it with black
Great quilt

ProudGranny5 05-28-2010 03:40 PM

I really 'love' the quilt just the way you have it.
I don't usually suggest, but if I had one like that, I think I would use some red to make it 'pop' then add black binding.

Tally Kathy 05-28-2010 04:04 PM

I'd use a light blue light weight chambray for the back instead of real denim. I agree, I hink it has enough of a border already, but if you add a border, definitely bind in black - it's worth an Oscar!!

Debbie1 05-28-2010 04:23 PM

I would use black, I think the colors would detract from the quilt itself. I love it your pattern!

roseOfsharon 05-28-2010 05:00 PM

Hmmm I am thinking if you have any or enough of the yellow with the stars, it would make a bright border and make him think he is a Star film maker! :)

I love the quilt just the way it is. Is that pattern called Slideshow?

watson's mom 05-28-2010 05:04 PM

What a great quilt. Your son will be thrilled with it. Awesome design, just like a big reel of film.

MegsAnn 05-28-2010 10:09 PM

Beautiful! I would add black border and binding. Gives you the extra size, but doesn't take attention away from what you've already done.

quiltinanna 05-29-2010 04:25 AM

:) You could use your bright green and pink or yellow to border it. It is a beautiful quilt :D

Rebecca VLQ 05-29-2010 04:48 AM

I'd leave it as-is and then put a rockin' binding on it.
