Border for log cabin quilt

3 Attachment(s)
I put a 2" red border for this but wondered if i should put the 4" tan also. The binding will be a blue, probably dark.
The first picture is the full quilt, the second with no additional border (brown is the floor), and the final picture is with the tan second border.

Thanks for any advice!!

Jen

It needs the tan border. Looks incomplete otherwise. (Imho)

BETTY62 03-29-2012 06:58 PM

I like it with the tan border added as well.

burchquilts 03-29-2012 06:58 PM

If it were mine (& wow... do I wish it was... LOL!), I think I'd put a medium-wide tan border on it. I think blue would make a perfect binding. In fact, if it were mine, I'd make the binding scrappy like the blocks. All this is IMHO. But this also is IMHO... this quilt is a beauty! Please post again after you finish it, OK?

Looks very nice!

Go with adding one more border of the tan... ! It beautiful.. you must so excited to see it this completed this far.

jenOSU 03-29-2012 07:11 PM

I was leaning towards the tan border :) This is one of my UFO's and finally decided to do something with it!! I am actually going to raffle it off with proceeds going to St. Jude's. I'm doing the Warrior Dash in May in Georgia and I'm not getting many donations with just asking. Figured I would sweeten the pot!

Yes, I agree with others--the tan border finishes the quilt. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.

If it were mine, I'd do a tan border, then the blue, with blue or black binding.

lpsewing 03-29-2012 08:53 PM

I think the same size as your burgany boarder in tan would look nice.
The quilt is beautiful !

Stacey 03-29-2012 10:20 PM

I have to agree with the tan border sugestion's, it really compliments your lovely log cabin quilt. The log cabin block is one of my favorite blocks to make & I just love the color's you have put together. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us.

gsbuffalo 03-30-2012 02:12 AM

Beautiful and I to like the tan

nunnyJo 03-30-2012 02:54 AM

would love it with the med. tan border, very nice quilt

piepatch 03-30-2012 02:59 AM

The tan border will be very pretty, especially if you bind it in the dark blue.

Barb_MO 03-30-2012 03:22 AM

I think I would use the dark tan on the outside. The the light tan for the binding.

QuiltnNan 03-30-2012 03:22 AM

i vote for adding the tan... the first border is not hefty enough for your beautiful quilt.

patsynel 03-30-2012 04:21 AM

Beautiful quilt! I like the tan border.

joysewer 03-30-2012 05:10 AM

granmalovesyou 03-30-2012 06:36 AM

I think a med tan border would be good, quilt is stunning

Bluebonnet Sue 03-30-2012 06:39 AM

I agree too, tan border, then red & binding in blue. Just a beautiful quilt. Good luck with the fund raiser. St Jude is a wonderful organization for children & their families.

vickimc 03-30-2012 09:19 AM

I think it needs the extra 4 inches. a 2 inch border on the edge is hard to quilt and keep straight and square. beautiful quilt.

wolph33 03-30-2012 10:01 AM

yes add the tan -it needs it

Quilt Novice 03-30-2012 10:07 AM

I agree with this idea...tan border, but not too wide, and then finished off with a nice binding. Please post when you're done!

Tan- tastic! It finishes the top perfectly. I also like the idea of a scrappy binding.

Seems unanimous everyone love the tan border next to the red. To me that just makes the blue colors more prominent. I'll fight Rebecca for it, just in case it needs a home! LOL It's wonderful.

Beautiful; I vote to add the tan border too!

Jammin' Jane 03-31-2012 02:24 PM

I like your idea with the wide tan border and then bind it in a dark blue! It looks great! :)

What a gorgeous Log Cabin (one of my favorite). I would also put a tan border on it. Please show us when you have it done. Thanks for sharing.
