To border or not to border

Ok so first of all, this is my first bed size quilt! Second of all I just can't decide how to border this. The second picture has the fabric I would use for either a stop border or the main border. If I only did a stop border the dark pink of the small squares would be the outer border. What do you think?

I would use the dark (small square) pink fabric as the first border (maybe cut 1-1/2") then one of the prints, maybe cut 3", then the final border being the dark pink again, about 5". Then you could use the dark pink again for the binding. Try laying it out that way and see what it looks like. I would not use the orange(ish) fabric at all. I think it really takes away from the other colors in the top. Good luck. Remember, my thoughts written are only a suggestion for you.

I see why you are thinking of that fabric - that color is in one of the blocks. Maybe if you add the cream color as a small border so the rest of it floats - then use the dark pink as the final border. That way the small dark pink squares wouldn't blend into the border.

I'm really not sold on the orange fabric either. I just didn't want the dark pink to make the corner squares disappear.

You apparently read my mind. :)

How wide would a good floater border be?

I'm definitely on board with the white or cream border first and then the dark pink...love the colors!

The light color is actually a light yellow. My lighting is horrible. I'm going to do the floater border first and then the dark pink. I just hope I have enough for a binding left over, otherwise I'll have to use a print for binding.

It is so pretty. I'd use the dark pink for a border too.
