Boy Scout Quilt

1 Attachment(s)
I promissed to make a quilt for a fund raiser our Boy Scout troupe has every year. I got the fabrics early and that is when the troubles started. Coming up with a pattern and ideas for the panel I got was like pulling a tooth. Finally came up with very simple design, no particular pattern, large blocks, and some applique and sashing. Everything was fighting me every step of the way - the thread, the fabric, the machines, the binding (oh the binding was a horror story) - everything. I could not wait to finally finish it. It is finally done, washed and soon it will be handed over to the scouts. This is the first time I am actually glad to see a quilt I made go away. No separation anxiety this time :) I hope the boys like it and since it will be a part of the Chinese auction, I hope it brings in some funds for the troupe.

Tashana,
It is wonderful! I can't tell you how happy it makes me tonight, on the eve of my own son's Eagle Scout ceremony this weekend.

I am the proud mother of two eagle scouts and order of the arrow also. I like to think it was instrumental in making them successful mature men today. A great organization for youngsters. The quilt is wonderful.

My son just completed the requirements for Life. Only has his Board of Review. He is 15 yrs old and on track to get Eagle by 16. I am very proud id him and he truly enjoys the journey. Of course I help motivate him....when he is awarded Life, he gets drivers ed....when he gets Eagle, he gets a truck. Figurs I better put tbese stipulations in as I waz worried that if he got a truck first and girls came more into the picture, he'd never achieve Eagle. Congrats on your son achieving this level. Is he going to work on the Eagle Palms next?
The quilt is great...I hope the troup raises a lot of $$$$$.

Great job on this! :)

Angellight 02-21-2013 06:48 PM

As the mother of 3 boys - 2 Eagle Scouts, this is a great quilt.
Perhaps it was because you wanted to do such a wonderful job that it became difficult.
Good Luck on the auction.

Happy Quilting,
Susan

Where and when is the auction, id like to go. You're 20 minutes from me.

giquilt 02-21-2013 08:08 PM

You did a good job even with the struggles.

owlvamp 02-21-2013 08:20 PM

That is very cool.

quiltjoey 02-21-2013 08:36 PM

Fantastic! You have to really understand what the Scouts are all about to totally understand what that quilt would mean to a Scout!
I have two Eagle Scouts, who are in the Order of the Arrow as well, which they worked very hard for many years to achieve, particularly, perseverance to do so. That is an outstanding quilt that either one of them would love to own. I hope it turns out as great for fund-raising for the troop. If I were nearby, I would attend the auction and bid!. Let us know how the auction turns out and what the troop, parents, and leaders think of the quilt.

cashmommy11 02-21-2013 08:43 PM

what a great job. sure it will bring lots of funds for the troop. i know my son who is also in scouts would love it..

KwiltyKahy 02-21-2013 09:03 PM

This is outstanding. All your struggles were worth it. I'm sure the owner will treasure it.

AFQSinc 02-21-2013 10:42 PM

You should give yourself a big pat on the back. The quilt is going to be very special to someone. Did you put a label on it?

DOTTYMO 02-22-2013 12:23 AM

Thank you.

I bought the fabric on fabrics.com last fall. It is Robert Kaufman / Quilting Treasures fabric. I believe the panels are still available but I am not sure about the coordinating fabric from the line. Good luck!

I was very close to not puting label on it, but a friend told me "you have to put a label on your quilt, always" so I did :)

cjackaitlin 02-22-2013 11:12 AM

Wonderful quilt, sorry you had sew much trouble,It is a good deed done great. Thanks for sharing.

Grammie Sharon 02-22-2013 02:20 PM

As a parent of an Eagle Scout and former Scoutmaster of our troop I appreciate and realize all you did to finish this quilt. I'm sure if you ask any scout that is how they felt sometimes in trying to complete a project to move up in rank. A lot of times the boys complained about doing a job but I would always try to explain the outcome from it. Look at your outcome. You did a beautiful job on the quilt. I am in the process of making a quilt for my son out of his Class B shirts he obtained while in scouts. I do like your alot. Great job. Yours in Scouting.

Sapphire_Rae 02-22-2013 02:29 PM

Nicely done! My son is a Life Scout, headed toward Eagle, but I think he may need a shove. My husband is the Scoutmaster, we started with the program when our son was in 1st grade. Your quilt is wonderful!!

Sapphire_Rae 02-22-2013 02:31 PM

I made the quilt in my Avatar for DH in appreciation of his service to the Boy Scouts!

QUILTNMO 02-22-2013 04:13 PM

Good to know...hope I can find it. my future sil is a senior district executive for the local district. When I asked him for Christmas ideas one of the things on his list was"anything homemade". I took that as a hint he'd would like a quilt. LOL!
