Brain Challenge

Keep trying to stay ahead and keep the old thinker going.. Haven't a clue what I will do with all these purses since I barely wear underwear let alone dress up...LOL If no one in the family wants will donate to the Haven sale...in the meantime it keeps me off the street...

Saw something like this one that was a ying yang design....rethought it a bit and made a pattern...Mmmmm...made several wrong turns, discovered the proper sewing order of the pieces allowing me to practice my ripping skills...then finally managed to finish it....Gosh I miss the dexterity of the old days before arthritis when I could put the proper finishing touches by hand...but am very grateful for the sewing machine that keeps me going...

I did have something happen I haven't had before...maybe someone knows what I did wrong...when putting together the interior pockets with fusible interfacing I was faced with air bubbles between the layers...started in the middle and pressed outward...pricked holes and still couldn't work them out...

Thanks for looking and any input...

Quiltngolfer 06-24-2014 05:42 AM

Wow, that's pretty...and different. I really like it. I can't imagine making a pattern for that. I'm not that creative.

Diane007 06-24-2014 05:54 AM

I like the style that you cut
very nice

ruthrings 06-24-2014 06:21 AM

This is one of the prettiest bags I've seen. Very nice!! And you do have a way with words!

Nice looking purse. I sometimes get air bubbles when my iron isn't hot enough. I just turn up the heat and let the iron sit on fabric a bit longer.

You have such a great outlook I love it! I really like this style of purse but I am like you - I don't use a handbag. But I'm one-up on you, because I do wear undies. LOL. LOVE the bag and I'm sure Haven will be thrilled to get these. Maybe there is a women's shelter that helps get women back to work? Those women would treasure these bags I think. Have fun keeping busy; these are great!

You did a wonderful job on this purse! Good job making the pattern for it - I could never do that! Keep up the good work. Someone will love them!

BrendaK 06-24-2014 08:54 AM

Love the bag. But I really love the fact that you said you "barely wear underwear let alone dress up". This made me remember when I was growing up every time my mother put on a bra all the kids asked her where she was going. You did a great job on this purse. Thanks for the memories. BrendaK

fxsts93kf 06-24-2014 09:15 AM

LOL! You made my day!! Love your purse..great design and fabrics!

I laughed out loud at this one, because for me it is my Husband who asks me that every time I wear one !

fivepaws 06-24-2014 11:01 AM

My kids are aghast when I don't wear one. To heck with it!! I am comfortable, my husband doesn't mind. I wouldn't be seen in public but, in my 70's, I figure that comfort comes before style.
Do love that purse, can you get a lot into it? What a wonderful way to use fat quarters. At least, I think so not having studied the pattern.

QUILTNMO 06-24-2014 12:40 PM

very nicely done!!!

IshtarsMom 06-24-2014 12:53 PM

When I'm SURE! I've got the pattern worked out be happy to share ... I just used scraps left over from a quilt.... didn't take much...

Jingle 06-24-2014 01:00 PM

Seems I challenge my brain more often these days.
I never forget to wear a bra or underwear, however.

bonitagaye 06-24-2014 01:20 PM

I love the purse! The colors are great and that makes it work! Great set up! Enjoyed the short story!!
:D

GagaSmith 06-24-2014 01:34 PM

You are a hoot! I'm sue I would like to spend time with you LOL. Your purse is gorgeous.

momto5 06-24-2014 04:27 PM

I do manage to get completely dressed, usually daily; however, there are some restrictions to my wardrobe.
I either had to dress (jacket, blouse/sweater and long dress pants) or wore scrubs for forty years while I worked. Now, I wear (just about only....) tees and jeans. I figure I'm 72 years old and can dress as I d@#$ well please....have to admit I do freak out when I HAVE to dress for a wedding or some other such event...a-a-a-a-a-ah-h-h-h-h-h....the joys of retirement!

joyful1 06-24-2014 05:12 PM

Rofl, but do like you bag!!!

GingerK 06-24-2014 06:12 PM

Sweetie, your bag is awesome!! As far as underwear is concerned, I think it is grossly over rated. During the summer (which is woefully short here in the Great White North--well, Ontario) I love to wear as little as possible, because come the BIG FREEZE (let's say November to April or so) I have to contend with waaaay to many layers just to comfortable.

Did you actually design this bag?? I think it is amazing and maybe you should contact a couple of magazines about your pattern.

Dee G 06-24-2014 06:20 PM

I love your bag. Great pattern and colors.

If you do a google search for yin yang purse bags you will see lots....I wanted mine fatter and with a thinner joining strip and I didn't care for the way the design blended together...wanted a smooth transition into each other...my mind goes nuts thinking of ways material could be swirled and maneuvered around that opening...or a photo of a sleeping cat curled around the circle... Wish I could say it was my idea but no....

JuneBillie 06-24-2014 09:53 PM

That is a very pretty bag. I don't care whose pattern it is, you put it together nicely.

gabeway 06-25-2014 04:53 AM

Looks great.

jetayre 06-25-2014 05:03 AM

Love your bag as everyone else but your words, etc hit home so much I had to look to see if I wrote it.

Yooper32 06-25-2014 06:15 AM

After reading your intro...I decided that you must be my long lost twin. You so gave me a great morning laugh. Thank you. Oh, and, PS, love your bag.

Denice_a 06-25-2014 01:14 PM

Hope you share your pattern with us. I Googled Ying Yang bags - but your pattern is far better!

Tweety2911 06-25-2014 01:27 PM

Loved your story and appreciate the humor!!! Your bag is beautiful!

ladysuds 06-26-2014 02:24 AM

Ya me too!!!

It's super cute. I think you turned it into your design with all the changes you made. :D

2manyhobbies 06-26-2014 03:50 AM

It is a beautiful purse. Great design. Fortunately we have season tickets to two theatahs, la de dah, so I play dress up at those. A cute bag (I don't mean me) is just the thing.

IshtarsMom 06-26-2014 04:45 AM

Ahhhh! Too many lifetimes ago we lived in Dallas and had tickets to the Summer Musicals and dinner theaters and all the wonderful restaurants ..those were the days...wouldn't go out with my eyelashes and every hair in place. Now not so much...but I do dress up to go to the store ...I wear my bra, my shoes, and my teeth... LOL and I do have time to quilt and sew now...

I'm so happy all of you like the bag...

Texas_Sue 06-26-2014 04:46 AM

Great job!

Susan

MarthaT 06-26-2014 05:07 AM

You're hilarious! Never lose your sense of humor and you will cope well with life's bumps. As for the "air bubbles" you asked about. My guess is, they are not so much air bubbles as places where the fabric did not stick to the interfacing. Try heating again and see if it sticks. (Unless you got it too hot and ruined the glue. Anyone know if that ever happens?) Lovely purses. I'm sure you will find someone who will love and appreciate your work.

katesnanna 06-26-2014 05:39 AM

Love your bag. I saw this on Pattern Pile just recently. You did a fabulous job.

Caswews 06-26-2014 05:55 AM

Beautiful !!

solstice3 06-26-2014 06:13 AM

A very neat design

Wanabee Quiltin 06-26-2014 06:26 AM

Well, I enjoyed your beautiful bag but I enjoyed reading what you said just as much. Gave me a chuckle.

w1613s 06-26-2014 06:53 AM

Tongue in cheek: Sewing by hand? You mean there's a way to sew without my machine? Surely not!
