Brown bears and Sea Otters.....oh my!

Even though I was a slow convert to the method, I love doing these pieces in raw applique. The bear is 15 inches square and the otter is 15x20. It does take about a day to cut all the pieces. I draw on freezer paper and then cut for hours in the sun. Elmer's glue tacks them together until I anchor them on the backgrounds. I believe both these pieces appeared as kits a while back a well.
Enjoy.

Truly awesome is right!

Really turned out wonderful! Never thought about using Elmer's glue instead of fusible. Do you put it on the back of the cut out pieces with a paintbrush or dab it? Inquiring minds want to know.

Literally just a small dab. Just enough so it won't move, but I can lift the edges to work other pieces around it.
Thanks for looking.

Fantastic job on both!

feline fanatic 08-01-2013 05:49 AM

Fabulous. Your fabric selections are perfect and the thread painting done on them is cetain to keep those raw edges from fraying.

They're both great but I love the expression on the otter.

DogHouseMom 08-01-2013 11:13 AM

Both very well done ... I love the Otter!!!

I've done raw edge applique where you have several overlapping layers as well. My glue stick became my best friend while making that quilt.

retiredteacher09 08-01-2013 11:36 AM

Awesome job on both of them! I especially love the otter.
