Bubbles Practice...on a scrappy by Charisma

Well I happen to love free motion quilting...but I got sucked into the loricles templates. LOL Even after I spent $ on them last year it took me about 8 months to even start using them. I have never used a pantograph or computer for quilting....I usually like to just freehand everything. But there are just some designs you can't freehand (and have them look normal..or what they are intended to be...right?) So I bought some of these boards. The latest one ( that I bought) is Bubbles. I love the graphic design of the board..but I am practicing for the learning curve or circles....I pulled out a scrappy quilt that was made for me (in the scrappy trade rounds) and started practicing.
I still need to practice some more....clearly.....there are several flubs and wobbles....but I think it won't take long...just a few more quilts. LOL
practice, practice, practice. That's the name of the game right?

huntannette 04-03-2012 04:31 PM

Looks good to me - you'll have it perfected in no time!

Looks great to me. Question - how many boards did you buy of that design. Do you have to alternate them across the table?

Hi JC,
I have a 12 foot table on that machine so I bought 3 boards...I really didn't want to have to try and alternate as I was quilting along....it's already so time consuming ( I think...it probably just feels that way) to be behind the machine. so I can quilt a king size quilt.

Hi Sue,
They are like groovy boards. They have a stylus that you put into the groove and follow. Grat designs..I bought several of them.
Baptist fans, swirls (but I mostly do my own), zig-zag, clam shells, crosshatching, I also have cosmos and the bubbles. They just came out with another called pebbles.

the quilting brings a whole new dimension to the quilt! beautiful.

earthwalker 04-03-2012 05:55 PM

Very cool....I am thinking this design could look really good on a two colour or monochromatic contemporary style quilt. As usual I am in awe of your talent.

mighty 04-03-2012 06:04 PM

It is great, you are so talented!!!

Yes! I agree..it is a very modern design. I friend of mine used it on a very modern quilt and it was beautiful! This was a scrappy quilt to practice. Thanks.

BETTY62 04-03-2012 06:32 PM

Looks very nice.

Tweety2911 04-03-2012 06:35 PM

Haven't tried the groovy boards only panto's and rulers. They both take lots of time. You did a great job! Very nice pattern.

Grandma Peg 04-03-2012 06:42 PM

Your quit looks great!

kathdavis 04-03-2012 06:44 PM

Love, Love, Love the bubbles. Another great job!

RuthFru 04-03-2012 07:02 PM

I think you did a great job on the bubbles. It is really cute and I think it would look really good on a sea scapes or childrens quilt.

trif 04-03-2012 07:11 PM

I agree, it's all about the practice! I have some pantos but like you( only NOT as good) free motion is less time consuming and since it's all me, nobody really see's the error but me. I have done a few, but definitely need to practice. I'm glad you dusted it off and gave it a whirl. You did a good job!

NatalieMacDonald 04-03-2012 07:29 PM

I like the bubble design. I stayed at a hotel for the Puyallup Expo and there was a picture bolted to the wall of very large pebbles. I wanted to trace it out and that's when I found it was bolted to the wall. The two sizes of bubbles in this design reminds me that picture. I'm drawn to this design.

Quiltngolfer 04-04-2012 05:44 AM

Sure looks good to me. Your quilting always looks spectacular!

Sandee 04-04-2012 06:07 AM

Beautiful quilting! Your quilting always adds so much to the quilt!! You make them all look like they are 1st place winners in any show!!

Caroline S 04-04-2012 07:29 AM

The bubbles are very interesting and do lend themselves well to your quilt with strips and pinwheels. I still like the creativity that flows when you quilt free hand.

Prettiptibbs 04-04-2012 07:31 AM

Your quilting is always beautiful!

Rebecca VLQ 04-04-2012 07:44 AM

Thanks for sharing your learning process with us. It gives we with little talent some hope! lol I also agree that it this pattern would be best suited to a monochromatic or modern quilt. Again, thanks for sharing.
