Hi QultingaddictUK. I know your sister will love the Bucket Hat. I volunteer in the oncology unit of my local hospital and make many hats for the patients. In the winter, I knit & crochet hats but the bucket hats are extremely popular during the hot weather. The hats are quick and easy and can be made from any washable fabric. I've added buttons, sequins, etc. to some of the hats and as they are reversible, you can go crazy with them.
My heart goes out to your sister and I hope you make her many, many hats. |

Help, I think I am having a senior moment, I really cannot understand this part of the pattern
1.With RIGHT sides together, pin the center back seam of the crown, matching notches. Stitch in a 1/2" seam and press open. Machine stitch 1/2" from single-notched edge of crown. Clip to machine stitching. |
Those are really neat.

Thank you so much for your help, I did it that way as I found this on the web: http://hippiepunk.wordpress.com/tag/bucket-hat/ and this is the result, I think she is going to love it as she adores pinks n purples/lilac.
I thought she would like the Yo yo but I put it on so she didn't wear it back to front and show the seams  Quiltinvca thank you so much for sharing this as I know there will be a lot of members who can find uses for such a useful, n pretty hat. |

Your hat is darling. Love the idea of a yoyo; very cute idea that I intend to copy.
I hope others will post pictures of their hats -- never thought a silly hat would generate so much interest! |

quiltinvca, that is how I did it, in the end after hours looking at that stupid pattern, or was it me being stupid
Also when I turned them the right side out and stitched up the hole I did two rows of stitching on the rim, 1/4" apart to "set" it and give it a bit of extra stiffness. I think also, on my next one, which I am making today, I will put a button or just a stitch on the top so they don't wrinkle up in the wash, what do you think? |
Those are simply darling!!!
|
great idea! thanks for sharing!

With your creativity, I'm sure you'll come with a hundred different ways to make them better or more decorative. As the kids say: "you go girl"
|
Great hats. I think you lit a fire. LOL

So cute, and fabulous hats for gardening! Can you make me one that's dirt colored?? Better yet, with air conditioning. And mosquito repellant, Can you tell what I've been doing? Seriously, your swim pals will love them. What a great gift.

Here you go, my 2nd one for my Sis this one was made with a 20p charity shop buy of pillowcases, perfect for them:
I used the pattern on the pillowcases to make a flowery top :-D I also used a lovely bright deep pink for the under brim so it would reflect some colour on her face, I thought it would be a good idea as she is so pale and I think it will help her family more than her: Sorry to be so long about it but I thought for those who want to make them for loved ones similar to my Sis they would like the tips, hopefully. |
Thank you so much. There is a big demand for theses hats.
|
Cuter and cuter! Love the bright pink.
I can't believe so much interest in such a silly hat. |
