Instead of working on quilts, I've been busy making Bucket Hats for everyone in my water aerobics class. It's a good way to use up scraps and they make a great hat for the pool cause they're reversible and can be dunked with no problem. They also make a great gardening hat.

Grama Lehr 08-17-2011 10:57 AM

They are too cute to get wet!! Where did you find the pattern?

alikat110 08-17-2011 10:58 AM

Cool hats

OraLee 08-17-2011 10:58 AM

Could you tell me what the pattern is? I am doing the 3 day 60 miles Breast Cancer walk in October and that would be perfect to keep the sun off my ears.

cdarts2 08-17-2011 10:59 AM

Oh how so cute each one. I use hats all the time. You've given me wonderful ideas.

NancyG 08-17-2011 11:00 AM

Those are the kind of hats I bought for my mother when she lost her hair due to cancer. Do you have a pattern?

MIJul 08-17-2011 11:23 AM

Love them - great pattern, aweseome fabrics.

belmer 08-17-2011 11:26 AM

It's a Betz White pattern and I got mine at a quilt shop in Florida but I've never seen the patterns here in California. You can order it at http://www.etsy.com/listing/60974354...t-pdf-pattern.

KEEP READING -- someone just posted a FREE pattern that looks exactly like this $12 pattern. My pattern called for canvas but since I wanted them to be totally good for the pool, I just use scraps of cotton. In fact, when it's really hot, we all dunk our hats then wring them out before plunking back onto our heads.

Charleen DiSante 08-17-2011 11:50 AM

Love the idea of using up scraps, what did you use for interfacing/lining?

The pattern calls for a fusible interfacing in the brim only. When I've used a bottom weight for one side, I don't bother with interfacing. The "patchwork" hats were made by sewing scraps onto a piece of muslin so in that instance, I didn't use an interfacing.

_KAREN_ 08-17-2011 11:57 AM

Oh, my - I love these.....if you are giving out the pattern, may I also have a copy?

Thank you!
Karen

I looked at this free pattern and it sure seems like the same thing. Wouldn't pay for a pattern when this one is free!!!

Kitsapquilter 08-17-2011 12:26 PM

Your hats are really cute. Bet the people who got them really like them!
And to those wanting a pattern, I have seen these hat patterns in the pattern books (McCalls, Simplicity and Butterick). You might check them out.

Charleen DiSante 08-17-2011 12:33 PM

Thanks, sounds very do-able. :0)

Jingle 08-17-2011 12:37 PM

Very cute, I would not want to get them wet.

tinliz 08-17-2011 01:08 PM

Thanks for posting. This is the style hat my 3yo GS wears in the summer. He is a redhead with the fair skin and gets sunburned ears an nose without a hat. Of course, I will have to size the pattern to fit him.

Mickey1 08-17-2011 01:28 PM

You are going to be a very popular member of your class! They are very fun!

quiltingme 08-17-2011 01:41 PM

Those gals are SO lucky to have you as a friend. The bucket hats are VERY cute!

alaskacathy53 08-17-2011 01:48 PM

Too cute

debcavan 08-17-2011 01:49 PM

They are darling. I couldn't figure out what bucket hats were. I was imagining a cover for a bucket for storage. What a nice thing to do for your friends.

SMR 08-17-2011 02:02 PM

If you don't want to resize a pattern check Butterick patterns I know they have one in toddler sizes and think I've seen them in McCall's and Simplicity.

LoriEl 08-17-2011 02:58 PM

Thanks! I may try to make DBF & I fishing hats.

New Quilter 08-17-2011 03:32 PM

oh they are so neat...love them all...Naomi

Katz13203 08-17-2011 03:50 PM

Come join us. We spend more time chatting than we do exercising. Mostly we hang onto noodles and float around the pool. Maybe that's why none of us is losing weight!
