Buyers remorse
1 Attachment(s)
As an add on to an on-line order I ordered a charm pack to see if I liked the fabric well enough to purchase yardage. Decided I liked the colour palette but print was a bit frou-frou for my tastes. Then inexplicably ordered two more several months later when they were on clearance! Commence searching for pattern which uses three charm packs and find MSQC Tranquil Triangles tutorial. Now on to searching high and low for border fabric, luckily found at clearance price. All the time, effort and $ to make a quilt out of fabric I wasn’t that wild about!
I initially used the same random layout as shown in the tutorial and hated it. Spent hours rearranging HSTs and this is the best I could come up with. My takeaway? No more precuts unless I have a specific project in mind and purchase all yardage needed to complete the project at the same time. i do think this will be to my MIL’s tastes and so that is where this is heading. I love your quilt. It's very pretty. Thank you for sharing your story.
I like it.
Oh I think it's pretty. I'm sure your mother in law will love it.
To each his or her own.
My taste must be like your mother-in-laws :p. I'd definitely think it was a good day to be gifted! |
it turned out great and the border fabric is perfect for it.
Very pretty quilt. Love the bright flowery fabrics. Your MIL will be happy to receive it.

I think it's great, and I admire you tackling a challenge. Your workmanship is lovely and personally I've always liked dark backgrounds.
When I look back at my projects I have a rating system, one is for "did this meet my mental image of what the project was supposed to be" and often that has a higher rating for that than "do you like it". But sometimes, "did you have fun making it" is the highest rated category -- which is better than when that is the low score! My latest project is also a challenge for myself when I picked up a bag of scraps that I would never had collected on my own but I could see worked as a whole. It's good for me to stretch myself every now and then but I'm quickly retreating to my comfort zone for the next project or two :p |
Very pretty!
It's quite striking - I love it.
I also think it's lovely!
It's fabulous. I'd say it is well worth the trouble you had finding all the fabric. :p
I like it as well! At least you have someone in mind that you know will appeal to , if not to you personally. I do know the challenge of working with pricey fabric that is 'them" but not "me." That's when you know you love someone--sacrificing your time, money, and preferences to make them a quilt they'll like.
I remember that collection of fabrics. Your quilt design is beautiful even if they aren't your favorites. great pattern with the HST mirrored on each side. I always have to "think" about their placements. LOL.
Turned out beautifully.
Just fabulous!
Wow! Beautiful quilt! She is bound to love it!
I get what you mean...so glad you've found a home for it. I never buy precuts. When l see a fabric l love, l simply buy yardage ( not a large amount). I find that when l make tops, l have scraps. Those l cut into same sizes as popular precuts. I then make scappy quilts with them ( in limited colour range, l don't like chaos, lol) .

Very pretty. BrendaK

I love the play of light and dark in your quilt. Sometimes you don't like a quilt while making it but later it grows on you. I really like this quilt!
Wonderful quilt. Well done.
I absolutely love it and the pattern. Thanks for sharing.

I think it’s pretty! Glad you pressed on through with it.

Ooh I think it is pretty!!!

Wondering why I can't see it??
At 1st look I thought, it's pretty, but not fabric I'd normally gravitate to. However, the more I look at it, the more I really like it!:)
It's like I tell my grands: if everyone liked the same things, how dull our world would be. And kudos to you for persevering and finishing it! |
That would be a great focal point in a room. I like your layout a lot.
It is so pretty. I think you have looked at it too long. It is bright and gorgeous.
Very nicely done.
Nice quilt.
I think the quilt is lovely! Your mother-in-law will probably be thrilled to receive it.

It turned out lovely...and I’m glad that you have found someone to gift it to. Your MIL is sure to love it.
I have a couple of precuts that I purchased a few years ago but agree that unless you have a project for them, they are hard to use...on occasion I have just broken them up to use in a scrappy quilt. |
I love it!! beautiful!!
I like your quilt and am sorry that you are disappointed. I think I recognize the collection. Charm packs are most often squares of a collection so it is nice to be able to view the yardage as a group. That is why I like online shopping. I hope your MIL will enjoy her soon to be bright and beautiful quilt. I certainly would.

It did turn out pretty! The colors just glow!
Not my first choice of colors or prints either, but your combination is stunning!
I think this is just beautiful. I want to make one just like it
Agree..... I love it! Also, I love precuts because I absolutely cannot cut straight, even with all my rulers. I only buy yardage for borders and backings.
