The quilt is almost 10x10 feet square and I quilted it on a Janome 6500. The smaller lap quilt is from similar fabrics and is for them to take along to Africa. They will go and teach as missionaries in Uganda for 9 months and we figured the big quilt is just too much to take along so I made them a small one also. The quilt was inspired by the pattern Nice Day in the book Schnibbles Times Two(quilts from 5" or 10" squares) by Carrie Nelson.

Quilted on your regular sewing machine!!!! And its huge! Wow my hats off to you! The thought of quilting anything larger than a small twin makes me ache ! Beautiful quilt.

Tartan 06-07-2012 08:06 AM

Well done! I can't imagine how much fun that must have been to quilt on your domestic sewing machine. I have FMQ a twin but that's as large as I've attempted. Your quilts and the quilting are beautiful!

Nanaof4 06-07-2012 08:59 AM

Beautiful! I can't decide which one I like best. Fabric is gorgeous and you did a fabulous job.

What a beautiful quilting job. I am amazed that you did it on your machine. I so have a problem doing quilting on my old machines.

cindy4857 06-07-2012 02:55 PM

What a beautiful gift. I can't image how proud they will be to display it on their bed when they get home. The one they take with will keep them connected to home and comfort them a lot. Great job. A real labor of love on your part. Amazing what can be done on a reg. sewing machine. again Wonderfully done!

wendiq 06-07-2012 03:28 PM

EvelynJ 06-07-2012 03:34 PM

Beautiful, and they will be able to travel and take the lap quilt to remind them how loved they are. Perfect. Best wishes to the new couple!

MaryAnnMc 06-08-2012 03:40 AM

Oh, Anna, they are both gorgeous! And what a thoughtful gesture, to make a mini for them to take along.

WMUTeach 06-08-2012 04:03 AM

How thoughtful to make a smaller version to take along. I would not be surprised if it never comes home to he US but is left as a gift for a special individual in Uganda. Have you asked that they bring back or send back some fabric from Uganda? Every time one of my friends of family travel out of the US, I ask for a yard of fabric from that country. Something that is native to that country. Someday I will make an international quilt to document all of the travels of my friend and family. It has been fun and will be a unique quilt.

MimiBug123 06-08-2012 08:26 AM

Beautiful quilts! I wish I could quilt like that on my Janome! Did you quilt them whole or in parts and then sew them together?
