Trying to decide which fabric I want to use for a background.
I have layed these fabrics out, looked at them several times.
I have taken pictures and looked at them. Still can't decide.
I like the lighter color, but---like the airiness of the greener fabric
These fabrics are from my stash, really didn't want to make the trip to buy more fabric. But I want whats best for my quilt.
Maybe neither one will work? Maybe I do need to go buy
more fabric for a better choice? LOL
Thought I'd see what the majority of quilters liked best.
Let me know which one you like best or if neither fabric works.
thanks

I prefer the lighter fabric. Your blocks are beautiful! Be sure to show us the finished product!

RedGarnet222 10-26-2011 08:07 AM

I personally like the green. Lovely blocks by the way!

thimblebug6000 10-26-2011 08:07 AM

I think the 2nd background looks the best of the 2 pictured, especially if you are planning on using the green & sunflower fabrics as borders.

Sewfine 10-26-2011 08:13 AM

I like the green better.

katier825 10-26-2011 08:13 AM

I like the green. Pretty blocks!

Lighter fabric definitely. Will look good when finished.

LisaGibbs 10-26-2011 08:15 AM

The lighter fabric makes the blocks the focal point, so that is what I would use.

Nanamoms 10-26-2011 08:16 AM

I like the second one better!

Nanamoms 10-26-2011 08:16 AM

I like the second one better!

I like the lighter fabric, but I don't care for the sunflowers. I think you need something softer and airy for the butterflies. BTW, the butterflies are beautiful.

candledish 10-26-2011 08:19 AM

I love green but I think you're getting too many shades. A shopping trip may be in order- LOL. But before you decide, may I suggest a different arrangement? Try swapping positions with the bottom right square and the one above it then take the one that was originally in the bottom right (the blk & wht striped bf) and swap places with the top left block. It may just be the uploaded pic, but it looks a bit heavy w/ orange in the middle the way it is now.

kittenquilts 10-26-2011 08:19 AM

Beautiful blocks. I like the green background better too.

Rumbols 10-26-2011 08:20 AM

I like the lighter green background too.

MTS 10-26-2011 08:25 AM

ooc, what do the blocks look like on the sunflower fabric?

LucyInTheSky 10-26-2011 08:28 AM

I really like the green. It matches better with the blocks, IMO

SWEETPEACHES 10-26-2011 08:31 AM

second one

Kehoeta 10-26-2011 08:32 AM

ditto - I also think the sunflowers are "too much" for the rest of the quilt.

QuiltnNan 10-26-2011 08:37 AM

i like both fabrics, but i would use the bolder green. the first one looks too washed out for your bright and beautiful blocks

Pieces2 10-26-2011 08:38 AM

I have 20 different butterfly blocks. This is not a final arrangement. Just grabbed a few blocks to lay out on the background fabric. There also will be a pieced border that goes around all the blocks. But can't move on to it until I decide on the background fabric. :D
So far the vote is a tie.
50% for the greener fabric
50% for the lighter fabric
Thanks for all the suggestions, I may just have to walk away and take another look in a day or two before I decide. :D

QuiltnLady1 10-26-2011 08:44 AM

I like the 2nd on -- the green. I don't care for the sunflowers -- have you got a floral with a bigger variety of colors?

Pattycakes 10-26-2011 08:49 AM

I think the green you chose for your inner border would look awesome as you background and the green in the second pic for your border with the background color as the outer boarder. The butterflies are totally awesome and need a dark backround to make the butterflies stand out more. But I didn't like the sunflower border at all, to busy.

Please show us the finished piece.

Good Luck

4EVERquilt 10-26-2011 08:50 AM

The lighter fabric seems to make the butterflies pop out.

cwessel47 10-26-2011 08:52 AM

The lighter green for sure

MIJul 10-26-2011 08:53 AM

Another vote for the green.

Pieces2 10-26-2011 08:55 AM

It is so odd how we all see things so differently. Thats what makes so many beautiful quilts I guess.
My thoughts were- to have a light background so my colorful butterflys show up better, making them the center of interest.
My choice for the sunflowers were to add minumal color in the border, but not take over the butterfly blocks. :D

Linnie 10-26-2011 08:55 AM

The lighter makes the blocks stand out.

Xstitshmom 10-26-2011 08:56 AM

I like the second picture better

I like the green.

scowlkat 10-26-2011 09:27 AM

I like the first one best.

Teddybear Lady 10-26-2011 09:41 AM

I think the green makes the blocks look daintier. It seems to go better with them.

Granny Quilter 10-26-2011 09:42 AM

I like the light green too. The blocks show their beauty better.

jillaine 10-26-2011 09:47 AM

i prefer the sage green background.

Willa 10-26-2011 09:56 AM

Can we see what they look like on the dark green you have for the border? The 2 you have pictured will work but......

Kristin in ME 10-26-2011 09:57 AM

I prefer the second.
