Carpenter Quilt

Making this for a friend who was just diagnosed with breast cancer. Hubby suggested I put only one pink ribbon to make a statement. Tell me what you think. Thanks for looking and comments. Still new to quilting. Gotta get those points to not disappear!

Great quilt and the ribbon was great to add your spin to this quilt. Don't worry. The points won't disappear once your cutting, pressing or seam allowances will improve with every quilt you make.

tessagin 07-09-2015 02:07 PM

I think it looks great!!

QUILTNMO 07-09-2015 03:23 PM

very nice!!!

merrylouw 07-09-2015 03:35 PM

Beautiful! And so sweet of you to do this for your friend. (Don't be so hard on yourself, your top is lovely.)

nativetexan 07-09-2015 03:41 PM

Oh it's gorgeous! good job!!

quiltsRfun 07-09-2015 03:52 PM

Yes, one ribbon. It'll be beautiful and no one will notice the points.

Latrinka 07-09-2015 04:13 PM

Very pretty, points look great to me! Hope all goes well for your friend!

tatavw01 07-09-2015 04:13 PM

Very Nicely done

Maureen NJ 07-09-2015 04:16 PM

Quilt is lovely. I think points are fine. Since you have not quilted it yet, I will make this comment. I am a breast cancer survivor and I would not like to forever be reminded of the breast cancer when I use your beautiful quilt. I would take the ribbon off the front, if you are able, and consider putting a smaller ribbon (or none) on the label instead. Just my opinion.

debcavan 07-09-2015 04:21 PM

I love your fabric choices

lynnie 07-09-2015 05:39 PM

love your points and the quilt, great job.

Thanks for pointing this out. I hadn't thought of that but it makes sense.

Good looking quilt. Yes, the ribbon belongs there. The several survivors I know are proud to display that they are true survivors.

quiltingcandy 07-09-2015 11:19 PM

It is a lovely quilt and your friend will love it! I am a 2 time survivor and have to agree with Maureen NJ - I would prefer not to have the ribbon. Surviving cancer for me is like surviving any other disease. Raising money looking for a cure is nice - but being recognized as a survivor is not me. Since I don't know your friend, I don't know how she feels. You do.

Lovely quilt, lovely gesture.

twinkie 07-10-2015 03:54 AM

Beautifully done.

I totally agree with the comment about the constant reminder. Your quilt looks great and your points are just fine. I think washing and drying make little imperfections just disappear. As my son says, " It's handmade" . We are not machines, that's why our quilts are soooo charming!

I totally agree. Your quilt is lovely and being pink is enough significance of the breast cancer history. The ribbon reminder is not necessary and maybe even hurtful.

wendiq 07-10-2015 08:16 AM

I think your points are just about perfect and tell hubby that I agree with him....the one ribbon says it all along with the colors in the quilt. BTW, I've never seen a ribbon with a heart center......nice!

Fotoula 07-10-2015 08:39 AM

Great job ! It looks beautiful!

annette1952 07-10-2015 10:11 AM

Very pretty & so sweet of you

rainsprite 07-10-2015 10:26 AM

Looks great, she will be thrilled. A gal once told me to cut a little larger and trim down for perfect points and seams. As a quilt shop owner and many show wins, I listened. It is the little things experienced women or men tell you that makes each task easier. Thank you for your quilt picture.

MargeD 07-10-2015 01:43 PM

Beautiful quilt and your points are great. Nice job. Sending good wishes to your friend for healing.

ccthomas 07-10-2015 04:17 PM

I made this quilt for my niece who just had a double mastectomy due to cancer.

redquilter 07-10-2015 05:06 PM

I love it. I thought the ribbon was fine but now that I've read MaureenNJ's comment, perhaps she has a point. At any rate, don't give those points a second thought. The quilt is made with love and that's the important thing. Best wishes to your friend.

Gail B 07-10-2015 06:34 PM

Beautiful quilt. I too thought the ribbon was fine but am also having second thoughts. I think I would take it off.

Grandma Peg 07-10-2015 08:02 PM

Beautiful quilt, you did a great job!

DOTTYMO 07-10-2015 10:42 PM

The quilt is beautiful. If the comments here have made you undecided then as her husband what he thinks. He asked for the quilt.

Plee1053 07-10-2015 10:57 PM

Beautiful quilt! I love it and know your niece loves it!

Plee1053 07-10-2015 11:12 PM

Thanks everyone for your compliments/comments/suggestions. I do value all of them! My friend is quite open and positive about her diagnosis! Her mother passed a few years ago from breast cancer and she is very active in the cancer relay for life and other projects to find a cure! Still undecided about ribbon. Maybe I'll Put it on the back...

Clarice29 07-11-2015 02:41 AM

A nice thing to do and I like the block very much. Great colors.

Bibliogirl 07-11-2015 04:57 PM

The quilt is lovely and the ribbon adds meaning to it

PS Stitcher 07-11-2015 05:13 PM

As a breast cancer survivor, I agree with Maureen NJ's comment. I would put the ribbon on the label. But I think you have done a great job!! Carpenter's Stars are not easy to make!
