I like cats and yours are adorably quirky. Perhaps a smile here and there as already mentioned. I also thought a hat or ribbon or flower here and there would be interesting. I agree that adding a mousie as suggested would add a bit of interest, either in the border or as a block.

They look kind of preoccupied, maybe add a litttle mousie off to one side and maybe a dark sashing and patchwork border? |

I made a kitty wall hanging and used some odd looking buttons for the eyes and they turned out very cute.
