Prim kitty cats.......This is my latest.....what does it need? Also I'm still practicing with my new camera. I think I'm getting better pictures FINALLY!

Maggie_Sue 01-06-2010 04:28 PM

Wow I think your kitties are great!!

amma 01-06-2010 04:48 PM

Maybe lighter color in the eyes? They are cute :D:D:D

amma 01-06-2010 04:49 PM

A marbled fabric, or some kind of tone on tone swirlys?

renee765 01-06-2010 05:34 PM

I think I read in an applique book about highlighting eyes with a white permanent marker - like putting a little arc or sparkle in the eyes. Not much, just enough to make them come alive. I've never done this, however, and can't remember what book I read it in, so it could have been in a quilting dream.

Astramorgaine 01-06-2010 05:41 PM

Those are cute kitties :) Have you thought about maybe making a scrappy border with the coordinating fabrics of the kitties? That might give it that certain something it needs.

susiequilt 01-06-2010 05:51 PM

They look so sad to me. Maybe turn up the mouth a little?

Chele 01-06-2010 05:55 PM

They are really cute! I love their expressions. They crack me up! Like, did you find that hair ball I left in your underwear drawer? Hack, hack... I wouldn't change them at all. Those cats have character!

thimblebug6000 01-06-2010 05:56 PM

You need to add a little mousie in your border & then a couple stitches onto their mouths to make them smile at the thought of catching it....

thismomquilts 01-06-2010 07:04 PM

I think they are fine the way they are because they are primitive (which I LOVE). I even like the idea of whatver is the background you have in the pic being the sashing??? Some white hightlights in the eyes is not a bad idea... (Not that the other ideas are bad - not by a long shot!!) I like them as they are...

Cheryl 01-06-2010 07:30 PM

I think they are really cute too

Yep, all looking different ways...

RedGarnet222 01-06-2010 10:48 PM

I think each kitty needs a different colored frame around it. Then from there you can add your sashings and maybe keystone blocks? Or just some pieced mixed blocks as the sashings?

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 01-06-2010 11:45 PM

Since you do these blocks to sell as kits, the idea of coordinated sashing strips might be pretty good. You could cut several sets of colors and then display possibilities with the blocks. As customers click on a block set one of those "you might also like" pictures could come up.

marsye 01-07-2010 02:21 AM

Thanks y'all! I considered putting them on black blocks. Do you guys do much with black?

earthwalker 01-07-2010 02:25 AM

Love them just the way they are...

rootyr 01-07-2010 02:58 AM

Cute!

Elisabrat 01-07-2010 03:05 AM

I love it and I am the ultimate cat person! The long face one is the best by far..

Elisabrat 01-07-2010 03:10 AM

Cat hair on solid black.. imagine how much that would show up. How about a tea colored fabric or med. ivory since you are making a more primative style? Or if your set is six, five cats one mouse (or offer that as an option?) six cats or five and one mouse and make the mouse look worried. No smiles. They look like kitty ornies. . Put a crown on the mouse :) or bird. That would be cute. button eyes? ah heck they are fine the way they are. Messing with a good thing and all that.

ranger 01-07-2010 04:34 AM

I like them.
I agree with the idea of using coordinating sashing strips.

pocoellie 01-07-2010 05:23 AM

Those are so cute!!!

jewelps 01-07-2010 05:25 AM

find a cat print material to border around the square

Knot Sew 01-07-2010 05:42 AM

a red flapping tongue lol...cute

Knot Sew 01-07-2010 05:42 AM

wookie130 01-07-2010 06:02 AM

I'm lovin' those kitties!!! I wouldn't change the kitties themselves, as they're wonderful, but I do like the idea that someone mentioned about adding a little mousie in the border!

Bevanger 01-07-2010 06:31 AM

awwwwww i think they're adoreable

Jingle 01-07-2010 07:07 AM

I think some kind of black sashing between the blocks would make them pop and I like the eyes as you made them. Looks great.

kwhite 01-07-2010 07:11 AM

I am not really a "cat person" but I do have two and neither of their whiskers are coming out of their noses. Beside their nose but not from it. This may be a help.

thequilterslink 01-07-2010 07:12 AM

I Love your cats just the way they are! A mouse in the mix would be cute tho

treeboss 01-07-2010 07:44 AM

Love your kitties...I could see a darker border around each square, perhaps but I wouldn't change much!
Great job!

I think you need dark sashing and then a cute border print, or scrappy border. Too much color around the kitties will swallow them up and all you will see is fabric, not kitties. They are adorable; hope you find a good solution!!

Jeannie 01-07-2010 08:43 AM

I agree.....make those kitties smile!

marla 01-07-2010 08:45 AM

I love your kitty cats! Perhaps a chocolate border and consider giving the females a bow or hat! The males could have something too. Or may be just one or two of them instead of all.

laparshall 01-07-2010 09:11 AM

They are very cute. I only have one question: Where are their tails?

The dog got'em! ;)

Greendragon6889 01-07-2010 11:17 AM

I agree with different eye colors, my simon has blue eyes and my other cat had yellow ones.

I love them - I agree with Amma - also - maybe a "smile"?? :-)

jljack 01-07-2010 11:45 AM

I think you need bright, cheery colors framing each of them. And the idea of a mousey in the border is brilliant!!

adrianlee 01-07-2010 12:10 PM

Love your kitties. Joann Fabrics has material with kitty paw prints, something to think about for the sashing or even for the backing.
