Cathedral Window quilt

1 Attachment(s)
I've been finishing up a bunch of UFO's, and was looking for a blue and white double Irish chain I finisheda couple years ago. Didn't find it but did run across this quilt--it needed to be joined in the middle and about 40 blocks needed to be completed. Finished it the same day I found it. If I remember correctly it took about 9 yards of white to make this quilt. It is all done by machine. The center fabric was really ugly but popped in the white. It measures about 40 x 50.

hoprigmom 03-14-2015 06:52 PM

Wow! You did a terrific job! I have always wanted to try this kind of quilt. I bet you are really happy to finish this UFO. The fabric looks lovely with the white.

Love the red and white in the cathedral windows. I can't see that ugly fabric anywhere:)

oldquilter 03-15-2015 03:26 AM

Love it, that pattern is on my to do list.

Geri B 03-15-2015 04:43 AM

Beautiful......maybe I should finish mine......but my windows are scrappy.....good idea using a huh? fabric in the windows.....so you surrounded it with the gray material? Interesting......

Phannie1 03-15-2015 04:55 AM

I have on in my UFO cabinet that I have been trying to get done too. You have a beautiful quilt.

abc123retired 03-15-2015 05:21 AM

Beautiful how your quilt turned out. And to think you used “ugly” fabric. I really like it even though it reminds me I wanted to make just a pillow and even bought a book; a UFO that isn’t even begun. So glad you finished yours and shared it.

Babs194068 03-15-2015 05:38 AM

Very pretty..........

Homespun 03-15-2015 05:41 AM

That is very pretty.

just_the_scraps_m'am 03-15-2015 06:00 AM

i am interested in how you did the edging ??? i am working on a scrappy denim one....very slowly.....

Ariannaquilts 03-15-2015 06:14 AM

I guess this is the right place for ugly fabric then because it looks lovely in your beautiful quilt. Check another UFO done!

jenOSU 03-15-2015 07:07 AM

Great job! I am currently making one by hand. A long process...

Jackie Spencer 03-15-2015 03:06 PM

Congrats on a lovely finish.. So glad when I finished mine last summer

Jingle 03-16-2015 04:31 AM

Beautiful quilt. I have wanted to make one for about 35 or 40 years years. I just keep pushing the thought back and making tons of others.

feline fanatic 03-16-2015 04:40 AM

That is really pretty. I always enjoy Cathedral Windows quilts and have the utmost respect for those that tackle them. They are a lot of work but the results are so worth it.

violetsfarm 03-16-2015 05:17 AM

I love your quilt. The borders are a great idea. Good job.

janice1120 03-16-2015 05:22 AM

What pattern, I thought they were usually hand stitched, machine stitched interests me

julybaby8 03-16-2015 05:49 AM

Very pretty, I like the red and white.

Cathedral window quilts were usually hand stitched. I found some instructions somewhere years ago and tried it by machine -- it works. I don't know where I got the instructions but a person could probably use Google to find the instructions. It takes a LOT of fabric.

callen 03-16-2015 06:55 AM

I don't know about that floral fabric being ugly because it sure looks beautiful with that white background. Your cathedral window is gorgeous.

NIICHMOM 03-16-2015 06:59 AM

I live 2 color quilts, usually white with any dark color...and yours is very eye popping..

There is a tute somewhere on QB by Eddie that shows how to machine stitch.....

The denim one mentioned must be the folded circles over square of fab? Going to try that next.....

fangman 03-16-2015 08:28 AM

A great quilt.

gram2five 03-16-2015 09:37 AM

There is a tutorial on QB - don't know how to post the link, but just do a search for Machine Stitched Cathredal Window.

This is really pretty. Every time I see a cathedral window quilt I want to make one! Yours is great!

ruck9085 03-16-2015 10:12 AM

I have one of those in my UFO pile!! I love them and since I stumbled on that machine piecing tutorial, it's so much easier. Maybe I'll get around to finishing it up one of these days!!

Friday1961 03-16-2015 10:44 AM

Really lovely! I'm fascinated by cathedral windows, have done only a sample to see what it's like. I love yours! The center fabric looks like stained glass.

nwm50 03-16-2015 11:39 AM

Great job and pretty colors

ManiacQuilter2 03-16-2015 11:42 AM

Looks like a terrific job to me. Love the white you used because the center does pop.

GingerK 03-16-2015 02:02 PM

So pretty! It is on my bucket list. Hope my eventual quilt turns out as nice as yours. Just checked again. Not an ugly piece of fabric in sight!
