RedGarnet222 01-09-2010 08:51 AM

How pretty it is turning out to be. You have a good eye for color, beachbirdy!

BKinCO 01-09-2010 09:05 AM

So pretty! You must have a whole lot more patience than I do :)

wesing 01-09-2010 09:16 AM

That is beautiful. I love cathedral windows, but it looks so difficult I have never even looked at a pattern. And don't tell me "it really isn't that hard," because then I'll have to add another quilt to the someday list!

Seriously, you are doing a fantastic job on this. I can't wait to see the finished product. Your colors are so cheerful. Will you be using unique fabrics in every window or will you have repeats?

Darren

Candace 01-09-2010 09:24 AM

I LOVE your fabric choices. How large is it going to be?

BeachBirdie 01-09-2010 09:43 AM

Its going to 44" wide and I'm not sure how long yet. It's actually not hard at all...at least the method I'm using. I am doing it by machine as I don't like to hand sew. I'm also using a fat quarter bundle call "Nest" by Tula Pink. There are 32 different ones so I'm just going to use all of them randomly through out. I am making it for my Mom, she picked out the bundle not knowing the name...she just liked the colors. The funny thing is it is of course bird related but not real obvious but my name is Robin and I call my sewing room The Nest...too funny! I'll post more pictures as it goes.

It looks beautiful. You're doing a fantastic job with it!

Harmony 01-09-2010 09:48 AM

Gorgeous! Every time I look at the instructions for these, I just get a headache! Maybe I'll just start with something small, llike a pillow.

SandraG 01-09-2010 09:50 AM

I've been wanting to do this pattern but don't know which book to purchase to follow. Any suggestions on where to get easy instructions?

Barb_MO 01-09-2010 09:58 AM

You are doing an excellent job. I like the colors very much. It will be beautiful when finished.
I started a cathedral window many years ago in Christmas fabrics. It go to the pint that I only worked on it during the holiday season, but haven't pick it up for a long time.
I'm working on it in my avatar picture.

tlrnhi 01-09-2010 09:59 AM

That's really pretty!
I've been wanting to tackle Cathedral Windows, but for some reason it scares me.

BeachBirdie 01-09-2010 09:59 AM

These are the best instructions I've found. I also have a book but I wasn't crazy about it.

ranger 01-09-2010 11:23 AM

That's lovely. I like the look of Cathedral Windows, but I don't think I'd have the patience to make one.

quilter girl 01-09-2010 11:29 AM

Wonderful. Are you just using muslin for the main material? and starting out with a 9" template as in the tut? Also do use a regular stitch length to sew the "curves" down. Thanks for enlightening me!

Rose Marie 01-09-2010 11:37 AM

Thats beautiful and looks hard to do.

Im not using muslin. Its a tone on tone swirl. I'm using the 9" templet but I'm cutting out 10" squares. Found that works really nicely. I do use a regular stitch length. It's actually easy and fun to do!

MamaBear61 01-09-2010 03:43 PM

Beautiful work

I sewed all the muslin pieces together by machine and doing the turn backs by hand. Mine wasn't going to be very big...I'll probably never finish it.

littlehud 01-09-2010 06:48 PM

It's coming along beautifully! I've always loved Cathedral Windows. Your mom is going to flip!

crafterbarbara 01-10-2010 11:02 AM

Beautiful! Is this going to be a large quilt? I have only used this pattern for a pillow many years ago. Show us your progress, please.

Mamaskeeto 01-10-2010 11:13 AM

Love it. I've got one in progress that I'm hand sewing.

crafterbarbara 01-10-2010 11:21 AM

I have many sunbonnet squares to put together. All appliqued on my embroidery machine. Wondering about the size of block you used in the darling quilt on yur profile.

Yarn or Fabric 01-10-2010 02:59 PM

Oh my gosh that would make such an awesome valance!! I was thinking that I need to make some pieced valances for my bedroom this spring. I am planning on rearranging the entire room when my husband takes the boys to Birmingham on a scout trip later on this month... valances would be fantabulous! Thanks for the great idea!!

I would love to do a cathedral windows project but also have been intimidated by it. Yours is great inspiration! It is coming along fantastic!

earthwalker 01-10-2010 03:10 PM

You are doing just beautifully....very pretty fabric...can't wait to see it finished.

Lucky Patsy's 01-10-2010 04:09 PM
