WOW this is gorgeous!! I love it.

vjengels 01-22-2010 07:14 AM

Thanks for the link to the tutorial! I have been collecting books, patterns, and videos in prepration to begin one, that is the best! The pics are so clear, instructions so easy to manage, and I thought that swapping out a piece of freezer paper for the 9 inch square,it wouldn't move around while you were pressing the corners.
You are a very good person for sharing that!!!!!!

cmapco837 01-22-2010 09:21 AM

Very pretty are you sewing it by hand?

sylvia77 01-22-2010 06:36 PM

Thanks, I'll be sure to check that out!

Mundy 01-23-2010 10:51 AM

beatiful where do I get this patteren

BeachBirdie 01-23-2010 11:04 AM

I have a book on it but I found a great site:

http://hyena-in-petticoats.blogspot....-tutorial.html

I am doing 10 windows across and I think 12 row, not sure yet. The fabric I am using is called "The Nest" by Tula Pink for Moda. The funny thing is I didnt realize what the name was, my Mom picked it out for the colors. I call my sewing room my nest because Robin is my first name...lol. The quilt is going to be for my mother. I am going to have to come up with something clever for the quilt label.

Candace 01-23-2010 11:19 AM

Are you using the 9" square and 2 1/2" window that's on the site you linked to? I'm going to have to give this a try sometime. Also, are you doing it with or without the 2 1/2" square of batting?

Ma for Aadyn 01-23-2010 02:45 PM

VERY INPRESSED I WANT TO MAKE ONE BY MACHINE IS THAT WHAT YOU ARE DOING?

Barbara A. 01-23-2010 03:24 PM

I love it....it looks super....you definitely have talented hands....I envy your work.

Margie 01-23-2010 03:44 PM

It is growing even more beautiful since your last post. As I said before, I love Cathedral window quilts...sigh...maybe I could try a small wall hanging size. You are doing a great job...cant wait to see it finished.

Margie

Beautiful! Your color choices just pop...

sewsewquilter 01-23-2010 03:54 PM

Love your colors. Your work is amazing.

Yarn or Fabric 01-24-2010 05:52 AM

It is coming along fantastically! I really would love to make one of those some day... It is on my to do list but sadly not for this year. I need to catch up on everything else first!

I can hardly wait to see it finished!

Roxanne 01-24-2010 06:32 AM

Thanks for this tutorial. It seems pretty straight forward but I'm confused on one part---could you possibly post a close up of your quilt so I can see one specific window?
When sewing the window fabric into the diamond do you stitch each side separately with the ends remaining loose and at a point? That's what the pics look like.

I really want to do one of these. After doing 15 quilts and giving them all away, I want a special one for me and I think this one is it!

Roxanne

cmapco837 01-24-2010 08:51 AM

this one would probably take a long time

cmapco837 01-24-2010 08:52 AM

my goal is to make a Ishish Chain and a Log Cabin this year

BeachBirdie 01-24-2010 10:03 AM

I am using a 9" block like the one in the instructions. I am using a 2 3/4" block...I found that worked better for me. I'm not using batting...this gets heavy quick!

BeachBirdie 01-24-2010 10:04 AM

This is done on my machine, I'm not much of a hand sewer.

Thanks. Do you have to fold under the edges and iron the 2 3/4" center like on the 9" block? I read the tutorial you linked to, but now I'm fuzzy:> I think I'll have to read it again! I wonder if the batting would be a good idea though for warmth in the quilt?

Ma for Aadyn 01-24-2010 11:27 AM

thanks for the info as soon as I get back from vacation I am going to start I will keep your name in case I get in trouble.

Marian E 01-24-2010 12:30 PM

I love the colors in your cathedral window. I started one with all purple fabric. It is one of my UFO's must finish it some day/

aussie bella 01-24-2010 02:03 PM

i just love it, maybe i will have to have a go

JCL in FL 01-24-2010 03:10 PM

WOW it looks great. My Mom did hers in smaller sections and joined them later. It does make it less cumbersome.

BeachBirdie 01-24-2010 03:37 PM

You dont have to turn under the 2 3/4 square (or 2 1/2 if you choose). As soon as you try a block or two you'll get the feel of it. I was surprised how heavy the quilt gets. Personally, I don't think batting is needed...its thick.

Marian E 01-25-2010 05:01 AM

I learned to make mine with a 6 1/2 in. square.

kd124 01-25-2010 11:51 PM

Wow!!1 That is really gorgeous. I love your fabrics.

jabs317 01-26-2010 04:43 AM

sewingladydi 01-26-2010 04:43 PM

Spectacular!

Lneal 01-26-2010 05:58 PM

Stunning quilt!!

needles47 01-26-2010 06:04 PM

Hi, I just learned how to do the windows. I have to say your work is beautiful. I really thought it was going to be hard to learn and I learned it in a 2 hour class at my quilting store. So , don't thinkit's hard cause it's not. Joanne

This one of my sections to my quilt it is all in purples. This panel is not completed yet.

JCL in FL 01-26-2010 06:56 PM

I looked up a pattern and it said you needed 25 yds of background fabric. Can that be correct? I knew you needed a lot but Oh my!

Harmony 01-26-2010 07:02 PM

Your quilt is breathtaking! Cathedral Windows quilts always remind me of twinkling stars!

The 25 yds. is probably correct. Just keep in mind that you don't need backing fabric or batting unless you want to put in under your colored squares. This quilt is pretty thick without any batting.

JCL in FL 01-26-2010 07:18 PM

Oh I know! but I know I've never bought that much of one fabric before. It kinda explains why so many people use muslin.

The one my Mom made years ago was lavender, your quilt reminds me of it. It's looking very nice

Candace 01-26-2010 08:33 PM

I would guess buying a bolt wholesale (if possible) would be the way to go.

Sheree from Chicago 01-26-2010 09:45 PM

What a beautiful quilt! Thank you so much for sharing.

Sheree from Chicago 01-26-2010 09:46 PM

Your fabric choices for this are stunning!

Marian E 01-27-2010 04:48 AM

muslin is what I used I buy it by the bolt of 25 yards and have used almost all of the bolt I bought to make this quilt of cathedral windows.
