All those patterns looks hard to me -- how do you know what's simple enough for a beginner to do?

This was the first time I did one, I just picked a pattern I thought was pretty. I didn't really follow the instructions, it probably took me longer to do it my way, but I thought the instructions were too hard.

Today at our ASG meeting one of my friends gave me a book of celtic patterns. Can't wait to have time to look at it.

Just beautiful, Bearpaw!!!! I absolutely am smitten with that. Did you do a double stitch on the fusible bias, or was it hand stitched? Was it hard to do? I have tons of batiks, the fusible bias and I even bought a few double-needles. Now all I need to do is find the time!  Thank you for the link. I have a niece who is getting married next Fall and something like that would be such a nice gift, don't you think?

Double needles usually don't work with celtic work. I did not use fusible on mine, but I did use alot of pins. I drew the pattern on my fabric so I had something to follow. Now I want to do a bigger project with celtic.

Thanks, Ducky! I used the Clover 1/4" Fusible Quick Bias Tape. I'm not sure if I did it correctly, there were so many turns I cut up the pieces to fit. ironed them down, after they were all on, I machine stitched in a straight line. I think it would have been better to use a small zigzag to get the width of the bias stitched down (not just in the center). It's on pretty secure though.

Gosh! That is so pretty!

Oh so pretty! hmmmm how many of these wall hanging would it take to make a full size quilt? :)

mjsylvstr 11-04-2009 03:36 PM

Bearpaw... absolutely beautiful.

I would love to attempt one but to this day, is still in my "things to do"

I did buy the book, Celtic Pieced Illusions. The quilts and hangings are all pieced but have the illusions of the celtic knots.

Wish me luck..I have the fabric and pattern and now all I need is the PUSH to get me going.

Again, your hanging is a piece to be prized...
