I visit many blogs...and before I started LAQ I was a pretty prolific piecer/quilter. Believe it or not!

I came across this blog and the quilt called "Bottled Rainbows"

http://www.stitchedincolor.com/2011/...ape-quilt.html

I knew I wanted to make this quilt! I bought all of the material thinking next year I would get around to making it until one day when my long arm needed a service call I just new I could get this quilt pieced in the meantime....The pattern/instruction teach it in QATG method but I wanted to long arm it......Scrap BIN wasn't depleted much..

The blocks that some of the other girls make are much neater or groomed and fitted than mine..but I wanted the raw form...no cutting of my scraps ...I just wanted to use them as I pulled them out of the bin....I love the effect..and I think this makes a quick easy, graduation gift, a great exercise of color confidence.

*Some of colors are kind of hard to see..lots of shadows where i took the pictures..the purples don't show up well...

I wanted a simple quilting design...and I rally enjoyed it because i didn't have to make anything perfect as it was my own quilt..LOL.

I used a Kaffe fabric for the back, and I am including a picture of my binding fabric.
Thanks for looking!
Happy Easter!

It is actually a really bright colored fabric

Beautiful! I love the colour makeup of this.

justflyingin 04-24-2011 12:20 PM

It's really neat. Are the raw edges turned under on the smaller pieces of fabric? I can't tell by the pics.

karenm36 04-24-2011 12:23 PM

That's a really fun, cheery quilt! And of course, I love the way you quilted it!

littleone 04-24-2011 12:31 PM

What a unique quilt, love the colors and of course the quilting is awesome as usual.

ssgramma 04-24-2011 12:33 PM

Wow! I've sewn the crumbs together but this takes scraps to a whole new level!

Maia B 04-24-2011 12:37 PM

Jubilant color! Fabulous and fun!

Nope...I left them raw so that when it gets washed it will be raggedy.....in the pattern they discuss several ways...leaving it raw, using pinking shears or zig-zag stitching around them to secure those edges down. I wanted the raggedy look.I think it would be really cute if it was flannel..and I put a few flannel scraps in the blocks...but I don't have that much flannel.

Wonderful idea. Another quilt I want to add to the "to do" list. How long did it take you to do one block? Seems simple to do.

Love the raw edges! It will be even more comfy after it frays a bit. Thank you for sharing.

I love all the colors you used in the top and the backing is great also. Very nice job of using up scraps.

annieshane 04-24-2011 12:54 PM

Very interesting design. Really like this name, so fitting. Did you sew the scraps on with the longarm, or use the regular machine for that, then longarmed the borders? I can see so many possibilites.

RDM 04-24-2011 12:54 PM

What a cool quilt. I like how you created it with what ever shape came out from the stash. Your binding fabric is bright, colorful and a perfect choice.

feline fanatic 04-24-2011 12:58 PM

Oh wow, I love this! It reminds me of tile mosaics. You really did a great job with the color. I can see where this would be a good exercise in color theory. This looks great. I would love to see it after a few washings to see how it rags up for you with those raw edges. You have some very interesting scrap shapes! And your LAing of it compliments it perfectly, but I expect no less from you!

xsquilter 04-24-2011 01:02 PM

I had all the blocks done in an evening in between regular house stuff.....so not long. I think I assembled some rows the next morning...but this can easily be done in a day.

suebee 04-24-2011 01:08 PM

That is really awesome. Beautiful job.

I used my regular machine because I was waiting for my long arm to be serviced.....I thought that it could easily be done on the long arm....but maybe a bit more difficult to get straight lines.

HI FF,
Yes the gal on the blog does it mosaic style. I know some of those scrap shapes are fun...it was fun working around them trying to get them to somewhat work together.
thanks!

I'm amazed at what you can do with scraps. That is so pretty. I knew you could make a winner out of nothing. You are so talented.

I can definately agree with others. Just wow. Just the block framing had me thinking of other ideas that could put inside of it, as just a wall hanging.

But, I really love the ticker tape pieces -- it's rather like a puzzle that you are putting together. I had also wondered about using glue to set pieces when doing applique, I'm glad that is something that can be done.

Hm..y'know, this would also be cool for kids to just put in scraps for Mom to quilt up by letting them make their own puzzles.

darlin121 04-24-2011 06:58 PM

Love the colors and the different scrappy shapes!

Airwick156 04-24-2011 07:04 PM

That is GORGEOUS. Wow you did a splendid job on it. When I first looked at it, it looked like a bunch of broken glass. Then I thought it looked like those tiles that you break up and then put in that plaster stuff. I don't know what thats called. But either way...ITS BEAUTIFUL.

I love that rainbow binding your going to use. Where did you find that at do you remember? I would love to have a few yards of that. :)

mamahippychicky 04-25-2011 01:32 AM

Like all of your quilts and your quilting, this is stunning!!! I especially love the colours, it really does look like a rainbow :)
