This is a vintage number...circa 1997?? 1998??

I know I was pregnant with my second or third son. I worked a clinic with a friend of mine. Her mom happened to be a quilter ...she had some embroidery patterns. So i took up embroidery. After doing all of the embroidered patterns I had to turn those little pieces of embroidered fabric into something...right?
SO I made little wall hangings or put them into frames....So that is how I got into quilting.......I started with embroidery first....

Then my Grandmother in law..gave me her old sewing machine. after 45 years of sewing on the machine, she got for her wedding, her DH bought her a new one...she had hers serviced and gave it to me...all metal..Riccar in the desk. I still have it. I started sewing away! I still LOVE that machine..she regretted giving it to me because she could never get used to her new fancy one. But she was glad she gave it to me ..she knew I would treasure it. I will keep her safe.

Anyway...I saw this Log Cabin pattern in a magazine and thought..."I can sew that".....I didn't even know what a 1/4 inch seem was...I was never taught how to sew anything...I just wanted to so badly.

so I bought some old curtains from my neighbors yard sale..cut those up....and went to a sale at my local Joanns it had burned down...and they had a clearance sale of anything salvageable....so I bought the rest for this quilt....LOL. To think about that now>?

Anyway..I was afraid looking at the back of this quilt that I may never be able to quilt it...and I was going through trying to find quilts for my boys to practice on...and thought I should finish her and make her whole. I just stippled her because I couldn't have quilted anything to fancy ...now all I have to do is label her...no matter where I started....I still love her...she is scrappy and such a part of me and my story.

We all have a story don't we?

What a good memory of how you started quilting. That quilt turned out great. I would like to even remember my first one, but never thought to photo any. I traded my first treadle sewing machine for my Bernina 830 36 years ago. I didn't have a place to store it, and now, Oh how I wish I had kept it. It had the nicest straight stitch. I used to make western shirts on it, and the top stitching was beautiful. I didn't have a clue back then, that I had owned such a prize.

I love your first time quilt! My story is not as glamorous as yours. LOL My first quilt 14 yrs ago was made of different shades of green (I think Poly blend)and I did the birthing method. I didn't know what I was doing at all! But it didn't scare me away from quilting, because my next quilt was made with triangles in the border. Tahnks for sharing!

What a great story!! I think you should put together a book of all the quilts that you have quilted, with photos (and their stories!). This will be the first one!

Thanks for sharing! I think you make everything you touch MAGICAL.

Love the Quilt... What I want to mention tho, is your RICCAR. I bought one new in 1974, it was very advanced, so many different stitches. It was a portable, and went through a fire in 1985. Had it serviced at that time, and just recently "lost her". I loved that machine it was a real workhorse. I still miss her. Recently replaced her with a 1974 Singer 2010 Tech Tronic, that I have named "Dan". He promises to be a great Workhorse... Glad to hear you are still loving your Riccar. Happy Quilting for many more years on her.
