I hand appliqued a cat in the lower left corner of this small lap quilt. Her bow was shaded with crayons to make it look more realistic. I also colored in the eyes and nose with crayons, then I hand embroidered over the top with black embroidery floss.

ooooh the cat makes the lovely quilt so special.

There are special fabric crayons you can buy. You color the item, then use a sheeting and iron over the parts colored to set it. Some people used to use the old colors to do it, but I don't think the newer kids sets work as well.

I actually used my kids crayons. I colored it in, covered it with a paper towel to absorb the wax, and ironed it. If it needed a bit more color, do it again. You can layer color and shading that way. Prang and Crayola are the best brands of crayons.

I think there is a little girl out there somewhere that will be absolutely delighted to receive this quilt. You did an awesome job on your applique kitty. Did you have a pattern for the applique or make it up yourself?

Love it Love it, I just saw "Sew with Nancy" and they used an oil pastel crayon and enhanced flowers with this type of crayon. The quilt was an applique landscape (Monet) it was beautiful.
