The charm quilt I made for Peyton ( in my avatar) is back from quilters. Here is the picture.. any color suggestions on binding? He put the backing on sideways ;(( was so dissapointed when I got home and looked at it. I also asked for small stipple.. but hey i am not going to cry over spilt milk. Peyton will love it.

I think I would go for the blue that is in the quilt, or black - I really like your quilt. You can hardly get anyone to do what you ask any more, they think they know better. However, that did not make your quilt ugly at all, it is great.

nice quilt, I'm sure she'll love it, next time be very specific on your instructions and get a copy of what was written down, you may be ok with the mistake this time but next time it may be important to have it your way!

BKinCO 02-16-2010 08:36 AM

I LOVE the quilt, and I love the backing.....I like the blue or the black for binding as well. But I am shocked they would put the back on sideways. Isn't it rather obvious which was it should face? Yikes. But, Peyton is going to love it anyway, it turned out beautifully!

I had used him for 3 years and NEVER had a problem at all.. but I have started about one year ago using a gal who is close to me and she does gorgeous work...and delivers and I usually tell her do what she wants although I pick the thread color and she is perfect each time. This was definately a blip ;(>> I had the conversation with his daughter , who helps him. and she wrote it down. I called him and he was testy with me about it.. and said what do you want me to do about it? I said nothing since what could you do now? just wanted him to know it happened. He had a very sore back yesterday when I was there and had been on pain meds..maybe was just not clear . ;( oh well . glad it is for peyton and not my customer last week.

Yeah considering I had it sandwiched together right to start with and yes when you look at that pattern it would SEEM obvious ;)>.

Really pretty quilt. I might go with a bright yellow binding.

janice4 02-16-2010 08:45 AM

I just sent steve a picture of it so he could see the backing sideways and told him I would label it in future it seemed obvious and I did give it to this daughter the right way. :( it is buggin me.;( I worked hard on it. Get over it.LOL

Rachelcb80 02-16-2010 08:45 AM

Wow, made a mistake and then gave pitiful customer service. He's not going to keep his customers for long doing business like that. It's hard to believe he put that backing on sideways. The design on the fabric is pretty obvious as far as which way it's supposed to set.

It's a beautiful quilt regardless though! Peyton will love it and won't think twice about the mistakes that you see. She's going to be way to busy looking at all those cute charm squares! Great job!

Your quilt is so cute!! I would use a red binding. It would really set it off!!

Ditter :)

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 02-16-2010 10:05 AM

I love the quilt, but am disappointed you didn't get the quilting you asked for. Quilters should suggest if they think they know better, but in the end it's YOUR quilt. It should be done just as you want it. (Same thing for hair dressers, but that's another rant.)

I'd pick blue binding. That blue really pops on the quilt.

ranger 02-16-2010 10:12 AM

Wonderful quilt. Peyton will love it. I vote for blue binding.

Ditter and I agree....it wants red!!
And I would not stress over the backing....it is, afterall, the BACK of the quilt. Not the focus. It's done...forget it!!!

blahel 02-16-2010 04:11 PM

cute quilt!

MamaBear61 02-16-2010 06:26 PM

Very nice quilt. I love the backing material (even sideways) do you know the name of the manufacturer?

no do not.. sorry

dkabasketlady 02-16-2010 07:12 PM

I vote for blue binding and I'd be disappointed as you are with the backing not being the correct way, I'm too much of a perfectionist. you're paying them for their service and it should be done the correct way. I would suggest a reduced price for the next quilt that is done in the future or leave explicit instructions to call if any questions arise.

He had his daughter call me and leave message today to ask if i wanted my check ripped up and not cashed.. I found it wierd that he did not call himself ;(.. so I ignored it and later tonight he emailed the same thing.. . not sure how o handle it.. but think if he felt he should I should not need to ask.. I am going on vacation and not worrying about it . It wasn't that much money to get it done.

earthwalker 02-16-2010 09:25 PM

The quilt is beautiful...even with the back done sideways..I would opt for a blue binding. As for the quilter...sounds like something is amiss with his health/personal life and it unfortunately travelled to work with him. Enjoy your vacation.

Loretta 02-16-2010 09:49 PM

I think a red binding would make it pop.

that was the first color that came into my head as well, red...

janice4 02-16-2010 10:22 PM

I think you are right RED... I finished cleaning my room tonight and getting things together to take my machine to my daughters one more sleep;)

Sheila Elaine 02-16-2010 10:28 PM

Looks great Janice. You did a fabulous job on piecing, & they did a great quilting job.

Gramof6 02-16-2010 11:11 PM

I just love this quilt! You did a great job. Know that. You cannot help what has been done by someone else. You brought it to his attention and that is all you can do. But...you do not have to use him again if you are bothered by his attitude. The quilt will be loved and it is a great quilt.

janice4 02-17-2010 07:09 AM

Yep I am over it ....... Peyton will love it..she will have it in her hands tomorrow afternoon;):)>. Can't wait to see them all !! Have a great couple weeks everyone I don't usually get computer time up there. Thank you for al your encouragement always ;). and have fun piecing.. janice

Elisabrat 02-17-2010 07:14 AM

Its a gorgeous quilt sure to be loved. As to the quilter putting the backing on sideways I sure as heck hope they didnt charge you full price .. that was an OBVIOUS mistake.. a child wont notice but an adult would ..even a non quilter. It is a by gones be by gones I suppose. And surely you will mention it the next round prior to quilting?

He had his daughter leave me a message to ask if I wanted him to rip up my check.. I wished he had called me himself. I am ignoring it.. I am on my way out of town.... I will be specific next time. He does some free quilts for our quilts of Valor group so want to preserve that relationship.

Sharon M 02-17-2010 08:15 AM

What a cute quilt!! You are right do not stress over it, it is done and over with. It may turn into being Peyton's favorite quilt you never know. I agree with some of the others it is saying to me RED BOARDER :D
I have had backs put on sideways also  and it was the year my goal was to make my 6 cousins quilts and was one of theirs. Not only was it sideways it was to short going that way and had to be pieced  He obviously is not a people person at least when he is in pain. He should realize it is better to take the loss and not charge at all and even give you a break on the cost of the next one. There really isn't a lot you can do once it is done. He could have been more gracious about it....then to have his daughter to make the call (coward, bad man, bad man  )
If he thought that was the right thing to do he should have just done it.
But when all is said and done...very cute quilt!

I LOVE the quilt, and I love the backing.....I like the blue for binding

cyniree 02-18-2010 10:38 AM

It works, I think it turned out good. And you are right, they will enjoy it.

Maybe his idea was that she would look at it correctly when folded back (as you have it). Nah, just trying to make lemonade when life hands you lemons.

Brenda Retzlaff 02-18-2010 01:18 PM

I would think about a yellow binding...it would make the colors really pop! (Just my opinion.)

Miss Purple Shoes 02-18-2010 01:59 PM

It is a lovely quilt. Peyton will love it I am sure. I feel for you though, as you will always feel disappointed with it, but Peyton will love both sides. She is lucky to have such a talented mummy!

gma2JR BT JL and CK 02-18-2010 02:22 PM

I agree with a bright yellow to bind with, it will help bring out the yellow in the quilt.

zz-pd 02-18-2010 08:16 PM

I would do the same shade of blue that you have in the quilt.
