Chenille wall hanging

1 Attachment(s)
Here's a wall hanging I made using the chenille technique with a floral panel. I needed something for spring/summer décor. I think I got it!

Is this technique a way to get us to purchase more fabric? LOL I used 4 panels for this one. I don't know if you can see it very clearly in the picture, but I used a decorative stitch on my sewing machine with variegated thread on the binding and hanging loops.

What a nice wall hanging, want to try this technique !

ekuw 05-23-2018 08:49 AM

Very cool-I really like how you did the loops for hanging. I've not seen that before and it's really attractive :-)

Barb in Louisiana 05-23-2018 09:21 AM

That is such a wonderful effect and made a very pretty wall hanging. Do you consider it washable?

Ariannaquilts 05-23-2018 09:45 AM

That is just beautiful! I have wanted to do this technique for years, just never got around to it. Yours is one of the best I've seen.

Very nice!

Beautiful. Not something I could do, but I can enjoy and admire your beautiful work.

Simply Gorgeous!!

zozee 05-23-2018 06:14 PM

Ooh, I like....It reminds me of an Impressionist painting. Nice job with the decorative stitch on the binding.

osewme 05-23-2018 06:32 PM

That's beautiful. I would love to have that for my wall. I think you've struck gold with this one. It reminds me of Monet paintings & I love the floral Monets. Here's some images of his paintings.

Yes, Barb, definitely washable. In fact washing it is required to get the chenille effect.

I've seen fabrics that are prints of Monet's artwork. It would make a gorgeous wall hanging.

Such a beautiful wallhanging.

Great choice of a panel for this technique , it makes a fun wall hanging!

sinceresissy 05-24-2018 04:12 AM

Very unique looking. I think it looks gorgeous.

Nita 05-24-2018 04:39 AM

Oh my, this is absolutely lovely. Great choice of fabrics (well worth buying those 4 panels) and your creative hanging loops really add flare. I took a chenille workshop through my guild about 10 years ago, but never finished the small project I started. Partly because I was not crazy about the fabric I chose. Now I will keep an eye out for some spectacular fabric panel and add this to my gigantic To-Do bucket list. Thanks so much fr sharing.

greaterexp 05-24-2018 06:22 AM

Every part of it is wonderful!

Lovely wall hanging, wonderful colors, & very nice hanging hoops.

I have a beautiful sunflower and backing in a green I'd like to use.
Do you have to use more than one of the floral fabric or would solids behind it work?

I've never seen directions for using only one print fabric. I think you would need at least two. You could try it with some different, scrap fabric to see if it would work. I think I would try to find a couple more panels.

Spring has sprung! I think you got it, too! Your decorative stitch on the binding and hanging loops added the perfect touch! Did you find the technique enjoyable and would you do it again?

jmoore 05-25-2018 02:38 AM

It turned out beautifully. I guess I’m not familiar with the technique but will be doing a Google search on it. Love your wall hanging.

I did this yrs ago with APPLIQUE hearts. Only used one fabric for heart and several layers of diff colored fabrics underneath...I'd only use one panel and then match colors in panel in solid for other layers...

sprice 05-25-2018 05:11 AM

Oh, that's lovely. Nice job!

Yes, I would use that technique on the binding again. I did two rows of decorative stitching on the binding before applying it to the quilt, so the decorative stitches are on the back as well. I used a fall panel as backing, so the hanging is reversible if I want to hang it the other way. The back is not chenille.

Thanks, everyone, so much for your lovely comments.

Hobbykat1955 ~ Thanks for showing your hearts and sharing that one panel would work. I'd like to see more samples of using just one panel. I wouldn't have thought applique would work either. Nice job.

Jordan 05-25-2018 01:48 PM

Very pretty and interesting technique

ccthomas 05-25-2018 06:03 PM

Nice chenille wall hanging.

wildyard 05-25-2018 06:05 PM

Are you going to be making a tutorial for us on that great application of hanging loops? I, for one, would love to learn how you did it!!

osewme 05-25-2018 09:22 PM

I would love a tutorial on not only the hanging loops but on the entire process of making the wall hanging.....please!

linmid 05-26-2018 02:45 AM

How lovely it has a watery look to it.

I also have not seen this before.

solstice3 05-26-2018 07:27 AM

Gorgeous. Sure does make you buy more fabric 😈. The decorative stitch shows up and reall ads a little extra to the finish. Well done!

I kind of have to figure it out each time I do it. I can't do a tutorial with pictures for a month or so, but will try to write one out to post.

DJ 05-26-2018 08:28 AM

Here's a tutorial for those of you who are interested. Please let me know if you need more information. If anyone has a link to a better tutorial, please post it. I looked but didn't find anything.
