Chicken on kitchen towel

1 Attachment(s)
My Mother was 102 when she died this past Summer. I took one of her well used kitchen towels and painted the chicken on it. It was thread bare and even had a hole. I put another fabric behind it. It is for my Niece who was so good about coming to visit her Grandmother and bringing her children along while Grandma was in the nursing home for 2 1/2 months. Karen is going to have brick red accents in her kitchen and her Grandma had a red wall in the kitchen behind the stove. The little wallhanging will be a good memory for Karen.

I saw DeLoa quilt these chickens free hand and then paint them in later. She is amazing. Acrylic fabric paints were used on mine. I quilted after I painted. This is just the opposite of DeLoa's procedure.

The chicken just makes me smile..

This is heartwarming and thoughtful. Shows a little dish towel can mean as much as gold. Canʻt put a value on things like this. Very touching and full of love. Who would have thought quilting a dish towel could convey such wonderful sentiment.

Marycumi 12-21-2012 11:59 AM

Very clever, you niece will love it.

Your chicken wall hanging is beautiful. What great memories for your niece. What do you have under your cloth when you paint? I brought the "Ballpoint Embroidery Paint" by Aunt Martha's; have a hard time painting with it. I though it would be faster than embroidering, but not working out for me. Any advice would be gladly appreciated.

barny 12-21-2012 02:44 PM

I don't know how you all come up with these clever ideas! It is simply wonderful. the drawing, the painting, and the old towel.

sewnsewer2 12-21-2012 05:25 PM

How thoughtful and the chicken is adorable!!

debcavan 12-21-2012 05:48 PM

Under the fabric, I use either a piece of very stiff interfacing or if it is a very soft fabric, I iron freezer paper to the back. I had put so much starch in this towel since it was so thread bare so I painted with it on the heavy interfacing.
