I bought many yards of gingham 30+ years ago to make a chicken scratch quilt in anticipation of my first baby. But I never did make that quilt.
I have a question -- did you use 100% cotton? Gingham is usually a poly-cotton, so I'm curious to know if 100% cotton gingham is available in today's market. |
The original post is from 2010...... I'm thinking there must be tutes on you tube on how to do chicken scratch or other sources where to get info/patterns. I have not seen 100% cotton gingham.

oh my !my aunt used to do that she made me a yellow gingham skirt with chicken scratch butterflys was very popular in late 50s and early 60s very nice

I done several chicken scratch bodice on my girls dresses 47 years ago. It was fun for me as I didn't even have a sewing machine at that time so I made all their clothing by hand.

I think it is charming. I presume that you use white stars and red stars on white to make y0ur shapes. Very clever!

Just beautiful..lots of stitching there...I have 4 aprons with that technique, I'm a vintage girl. I personally have never done it though. I have stitched ric rac down with a zig zag stitch.
