I bought many yards of gingham 30+ years ago to make a chicken scratch quilt in anticipation of my first baby. But I never did make that quilt.

I have a question -- did you use 100% cotton? Gingham is usually a poly-cotton, so I'm curious to know if 100% cotton gingham is available in today's market.

The original post is from 2010...... I'm thinking there must be tutes on you tube on how to do chicken scratch or other sources where to get info/patterns. I have not seen 100% cotton gingham.

I done several chicken scratch bodice on my girls dresses 47 years ago. It was fun for me as I didn't even have a sewing machine at that time so I made all their clothing by hand.

Very pretty. I have heard of it, but never tried it.

I think it is charming. I presume that you use white stars and red stars on white to make y0ur shapes. Very clever!

Just beautiful..lots of stitching there...I have 4 aprons with that technique, I'm a vintage girl. I personally have never done it though. I have stitched ric rac down with a zig zag stitch.
