Chicopee Square...a quilt for my niece

2 Attachment(s)
A lot of points were sacrificed in the making of this quilt...lol. It's a pattern called Chicopee Square. It calls for a faster way of making flying geese. I must not have measured 1/4" correctly or maybe cut them wrong. But, I ended up with some that had the appropriate 1/4" above the point & a lot that didn't. That made piecing it not much fun. Although, I do think it came out pretty. My niece Ashley doesn't know anything about quilting, so she probably won't notice (fingers crossed).

I love this! The colors are bright and cheery and the black and white checkered is what makes this quilt super cute in my book!

erstan947 02-20-2014 06:54 AM

Perfection is highly over rated! Love this quilt....the swirls in the white are great and adds lots of movement! It looks perfect to me! When my points don't come out pointy.....I call it a "Safety Quilt". No sharp points....lol

Diane007 02-20-2014 06:58 AM

you made me laugh...
I guess it was like making headless geese..

I like it

Quilter 65 02-20-2014 06:59 AM

I imagine we have all missed points in our past, some in quilting and some in other areas.

PaperPrincess 02-20-2014 07:01 AM

I really like this a lot!! Your niece will love it!!!

dmarie 02-20-2014 07:34 AM

I love everything about your quilt. If points were sacrificed I didn't notice them. Beautiful.

mawluv 02-20-2014 07:41 AM

love the bk/wh checks

Froggiey 02-20-2014 08:06 AM

I think your quilt is beautiful. Points are overrated in my opinion. Although I think your points are great. I'm making a mini periwinkle and lots of matching seams that aren't happening. I decided to let them hit and miss after I took one part out so many times it left a hole in the fabric which was fun to replace.

willferg 02-20-2014 08:21 AM

Your fabric choices are great!

Kitsie 02-20-2014 08:28 AM

What a pretty pattern and love it with the fabrics you've chosen!

Love your quilt and the pattern.
Flying geese are not a problem with Eleanor Burns method and rulers. Worth the money and saved some by using coupons at Joanns.

debcavan 02-20-2014 08:50 AM

Darling quilt. The quilting really looks great on it.

I do agree with you & I have her flying geese ruler. I was following the pattern and would have started over using the ruler, but had cut the fabric. I didn't have enough of the white fabric to do so. I also love The Quilt in a Day scallop ruler, too.

Love this quilt. Where did you find the pattern, this would be great for scraps and donation quilts. :)

tessagin 02-20-2014 08:55 AM

This is gorgeous! Everything pops!

Monika 02-20-2014 08:57 AM

Love this! And I am sure you are right in that she won't notice a few missing points, she will love it and that is what it is all about. Love your quilting, too! It really high-lights the pattern.

It's in the Apr/May 2013 issue of Quilt Magazine. It's great for scraps. Almost all of the colored squares were scraps from a quilt that I posted a few weeks ago on the board called Imperial Diamonds.

looks fine as is. I think we all sacrifice points in our quest of quilt making.

Tartan 02-20-2014 09:09 AM

I love it! Perfect points are pointless anyway, right? :DAt least that is what I tell myself when they don't work out.

sandyfullmer 02-20-2014 09:29 AM

Very pretty quilt - I'm sure she'll love it!

Jingle 02-20-2014 09:30 AM

Over all looks beautiful to me. When points are involved it is best to sometimes cut bigger pieces and trim to keep the points. I'm sure the recipient won't care about points with your great color selection.

dunster 02-20-2014 09:54 AM

I've been LOL over the comments you funny quilters have made. I agree with Sandra B that the black and white checkerboard is super cute, and with the rest of you that there's no point in worrying about points.
