China's quilt

1 Attachment(s)
China was my 21 year old cat that had to be put down 3 weeks ago. He was helping me when I started this quilt so he needed to be included in the top. I miss him so much.
The border is all just pinned right now because I will applique them before attaching to the quilt. Very rough looking top but just wanted to post a picture. The string will look like chenille once the quilt is washed.
Thanks for looking.

Sorry about your loss. It's difficult, I know. The quilt is lovely.

bailey 07-27-2015 05:12 PM

Thanks everyone. China was my lifeline. Really had a rough few weeks. I just feel alone and kind of adrift now but I am hoping that will all get better. Loved making his quilt and finding all that cat hair on the fabric!! Now I will work on getting those borders on. Would like to quilt it myself so any suggestions are welcome. I can do this...........
China is on my avatar checking out the roses on my bed runner.

Beautiful quilt, and a precious tribute to your baby. I am so sorry about your China. We have went through this too. :(

Cybrarian 07-27-2015 06:41 PM

Bailey, have to tell you I laugh every time I see your signature line you have a wonderful sense of humor!-China knew he was loved, hold those great memories close for comfort. Anyone who gives their fur baby such a wonderful tribute has much love to give. I hope soon you will be able to give an animal who desperately needs a forever home some of that love-not to take China's place, but to honor him by rescuing another fur baby. Sending a big hug from FL

We lost our Farah at 21 ..she was a siamese too. Still miss her after all these years but do love my Mr.Peach! Go adopt another right now. There is a sweet kitty that needs you. It won't be China but it will work its way into your heart. Your quilt is beautiful!

I agree. I could not say it any better. Our pets for some of us are our children.

Yooper32 07-28-2015 04:26 AM

What a wonderful remembrance you will have of him now. I understand. I drove over 50 miles yesterday to take my cat that adopted me and had never been confined in anything in his lifetime, to a vet hospital. He meowed all the way there and I talked to him all the way. When we got there, I carried his new carrier in and we had an hour's wait, he never made another peep. Did he know that help was on the way for his horrible congestion? He was also silent all the way home.

Bailey it's beautiful. Sorry for the loss of your little friend China. Maybe you could do diamonds (crosshatching) in the house bit and hearts and paws in the borders. Don't leave it too long before you find another companion. It's not disloyal, and in no way is it to 'replace' China. You obviously have a lot of love to give, and it will be good for you to get some love and company in return. All the best from Western Australia.

Beautiful tribute to China .

Homespun 07-28-2015 05:53 AM

A very pretty quilt.

feline fanatic 07-28-2015 05:58 AM

I adore how you incorporated a tribute to China in this quilt, especially how you have him playing with the string and it is wrapped around him.
And what a rare and special gift to have had him for so many years. Definitely a testimony to your loving care of him that he was with you as long as he was. I can only dream of having a cat live to such a ripe old age. I also understand how lost you feel without him. He was a part of your life for a very long time. I know not all people feel this way, but I always find a new addition helps to heal the hurt. A new puppy or kitten (or even an adult that need rescue!) in no way replaces the ones who have gone before but their presence helps make new love in your heart and it helps to fill the hole and squeeze out the hurt of loss left by the one who waits at the bridge.
I can tell you when my time comes it will be one big joyous reunion.

Sorry for your lost.

The quilt you've made is beautiful.

nanna-up-north 07-28-2015 07:07 AM

Your quilt is fantastic. I've always loved quilts with the house/schoolhouse. But the way you've incorporated China and his playful ways is just so creative.... wonderful. I know how difficult it is to lose a pet. We've always had dogs but they are the most loving companions we can ever have. It does get easier but never the same. Sorry for your loss.

QM 07-28-2015 08:03 AM

Looks great so far. I think I would do a gridwork design in the center portion and echo the appliques. I am sure you will select a great quilting pattern.

QUILTNMO 07-28-2015 10:38 AM
