My daughter recently moved into a new home, a townhouse in southern California. As a housewarming present I said I would make potholders, but she could pick the colors. Once we had that established I made potholders and placemats for Christmas. On the placemats I quilted "k"s, the first letter of her first name. It was the first time I've tried free stitching - what fun!

see the "k" pattern?

Oh, WOW! This are beautiful :)

I like how you used the half-square triangles.
I end up with HST a lot of times from one of the quick piecing techniques so popular today.
Even the tiniest little HST looks attractive in the setting you have chosen <wave>

Great job! Do you have a pattern. Interesting I meet someone from my old stomping grounds. I lived in Spokane for 4 years and now I am in Northern California.

bdship 12-27-2010 09:10 AM

oh, dear..a friend taught me how to make the potholders a LONG time ago. I've never had a pattern, and don't know the name. They're really easy to make - much of the work is done by hand - fun to do in the evening in front of the TV. Maybe someone else knows the name...?

bdship 12-27-2010 06:58 PM

Are they done like the folded fabric Christmas balls ?

LivelyLady 12-27-2010 07:27 PM

What a great gift and so pretty.

Sandi Furtado 12-27-2010 08:41 PM

Thank you Carol, I will see if I can figure it out by the picture.

NoBetz 12-27-2010 08:59 PM

Will this help? It appears to be similar, You just have to make it square.
