I made a purse with sample swatches of drapery fabric. It was so fun because I could easily find several pieces that went together very well. But the purse turned out to be quite heavy because of the heavier fabric. Upholstery fabric would be much heavier.

Yes it is the pinafore pattern, I've used some drapery fabric also in making these.

I have use lighter weight upholstery fabric. no stiffing required with these fabrics and use a very thin material for the linning.

Thanks every one for the thumbs on these purses . I'm having loads of fun going through all my boxes of fabric. I haven't found them to be to heavy with the types I'm using.

I love using drapery and upholstery fabric for bags. They are so quick and easy since they don't require interfacing or batting.
I did find that some of the tapestry fabrics are not as closely woven as others so seams need to be a bit wider.

I washed the fabric first ,that takes alot of the stiffness out plus I chose lighter weight fabrics.
