Cheers for you using that skimpy 6" square in a very nice runner to meet your Guild's challenge. You really showed the cheapskates who gave it out for the challenge a thing or two. May in Jersey

I like what you have done with your measly six inch square you were given. Geez .. six inches?? You gals need a new head person in that group! This looks like a very cool present for someone's exchange gift. Nice work, sewjoyce!

Joyce the table runner came out great! I am sure whoever gets it will love it. OK, one question, which color was the 6" square?

The 6" fabric was trimmed to 5" and then put in the middle of a D9P block so it would be cut into 4ths. This fabric is the off white squares with red/green dots with little swirls.....

Yeah, they were trying to be cheap this year and the woman in charge said that was why we were getting the 6" square -- to save money. But according to the last Treasurer's report I heard, the guild bank account was doing quite well.... so my question was, why give us anything? :(

in that case, i'm curious. what happens to the guild money? does it go to a charity or something? maybe a daytrip or hiring a teacher for the day?

Let's see -- our quilt guild money goes for "traveling" teachers. We still have to pay to attend any workshop or classes but the teacher will also be at a club meeting to give a lecture. Teachers apparently charge an arm and a leg to come to our podunk city... This month they had Sue Nickels who also taught two one-day classes. (Here is her web site: http://www.quiltingbythelake.com/SueNickels.htm) Money is used to buy things to make the charity quilts (batting and backing normally as each month the BOM is used to make a charity quilt). And then there are the normal expenses such as postage, paper, etc. They also will buy books for the library (which no one seems to use...) We also pay for venues in which to have quilt shows but usually this money is more than repaid since vendors pay us to be there. I'm sure I'm leaving out something important.... But the good news is that our yearly "dues" are only $15....... :D
