Christmas quilt
1 Attachment(s)
Pattern is from the City Stitcher. It was designed for a raggy look but I did it all in machine applique to get some practice. Found as a block of the month quilt kit at a garage sale. All I need to do is add a little fabric wreath to the house door and make the binding. Then I can get to the quilting.
Changed a lot of things. The pine boughs are my own creation. Added buttons to the poinsetta instead of ribbon french knots. Left off the reindeer antlers and now they are just deer, etc. Pattern was good buy my following of written instructions was not. Had to remake one block and add additional snow to another. The quilting will be simple in the ditch. |
Very nice and you did a lot of work.

Bright and cheerful! Looks great and done in plenty of time.

Very festive....nice work.
|
such a fun quilt
|
very cute indeed!!! i started one with neutral background pieces. was to have a huge tree of limbs and a few red blossoms I believe. I got out of the weird tree mood and put gingerbread men and some deer and a moose I think. anyway it got finished and that is good in my book. What are you going to do with yours?

That's so cute!

Great Christmas quilt.
|
I really like that! It has a whimsical, primitive look. Fabrics are great!

Cute top!
|
Beautiful!
I'm very new to machine appliqué so I apologize if this seems silly......the items you appliquéd.....did you place them on top of the fabric and then just stitch them down? If so, what type of stitch did you use to keep the edges of the item from unraveling? I tried to zoom on your photo and I can't tell. My head is afraid to do this on a quilt figuring the items would unravel and the quilting may pick up the edges of the items. Thanks! |
Ginger, I used Soft Fuse, a blanket stitch, and coordinating thread. The technique was taught to me by Pat Holly and Sue Nickels at a retreat. They showed a quilt that had been washed gently a number of times and was still lovely. PS, I have had even redwork embroidery quilted in an all over design by a long arm quilter and they did not catch any of my threads.
I figured since they won so many awards, it must be something to try. I love to do it. I use a Bernina and the stitch width and length was set at 2.0. Easy to vary however to get longer bites or a more satin like stitch. I am not going to use this on a bed. It will probably go on the wall or the back of a sofa. |
My sister is into this style of wall hanging she'd love it, I think I would probably have to make it as close to yours as possible. Unfortunately not enough time for it as the season is upon us. Maybe next year. Love your quilt exactly the way you made it. Happy Holidays!
