My Mother made this the year before she passed away. It has 24 buttons on it - at the bottom there are 24 pockets. Inside each pocket is a ornamental button that she tied gold thread to. Each day an ornament is to be taken out of the pocket and placed on the tree - so on Christmas Eve, the tree is fully decorated.

I just love it :)

You are very lucky to have a wonderful gift to remember your mother by. It's a really a nice way to have her with you every year at the Christmas season.

So cute. We had one similar like it growing up

mim 12-29-2010 06:38 PM

What a lovely idea to keep it for future years. I made a tree for my twin DGDs when they were 4 or 5 with small ornaments on ribbon to hang on th buttons. I have no idea if it survived

It was the most fun just to find decorative buttons. There was a button shop in Freeport ME at the time -- some as much as 3 and 4 $$$

I love this story and the wall hanging. This would be a beautiful present for young grandchildren to countdown Christmas, especially for those who celebrate Advent season.

This must be a beautiful tradition for you! To remember Mom every day in this special way each year would be awesome!

I love this! I wish I would have seen it before now. Do you mind if I borrow the idea? My MIL did not put up a tree of any kind this year since my FIL is in a nursing home. This could have been easy for her to put up and take down with easy storage too. I would have brightened up the room too. She wouldn't let us kids put up her tree with all her cats to mess with the tree and ornaments.

malega 12-30-2010 08:25 AM

Actually my Mother made this for my niece, I saw it over the holidays and took a picture of it so I can make one for my house. I do love it.

An Advent Calendar! I've been looking for a pattern for one for years, it is the nicest I've ever seen! Do you have a pattern for it, or an online address where the pattern is sold?

Congrats, beautiful job!

happymrs 12-30-2010 08:14 PM

Very pretty! What a cool idea! I can see why you love, besides knowing your mom made it! It's lovely!...
