Mat from my daughter, scissors and templates from my Mom, new machine from my husband. The coolest thing is the way they are encouraging my new habit.

Isn't it great when your family supports your hobby? You are one lucky woman! Now get that machine humming!

renee765 12-27-2010 10:57 AM

You are going to LOVE that machine - especially when you get the hang of the start/stop button so you don't have to use a foot pedal!

JanTx 12-27-2010 10:58 AM

Well, .... I had told my daughter (age 28 and already the recepient of curtains for her room and her son's room AND a quilt for herself and the one in the avatar for her son) to be SURE that Dad knew I wanted a new machine so ... maybe not so good, just resourceful?

Daughter asked a quilting friend what other things I could use.

Because of what I've read on here about this machine I did not even unwrap the foot pedal. Love the push button and the needle up/down button. I've only straight stitched with it - except for a little practice square with some stitches and the little monogram letters - but ... love it!

I sewed on it last night for a while and even this morning. It's a bit challenging cause I brought the little avatar guy home with me from Christmas, but he's easily entertained so I've been sewing anyway - a bit!

carolaug 12-27-2010 11:34 AM

Sounds like you are having fun!! Enjoy the many hours of sewing!

Enablers - I like that one!

My husband may not be so thrilled as I keep disappearing to the dining/sewing room as the little one bops back and forth between us. He moved his new soccer net into the kitchen so he can say, "Watch this, Grammy!" and I can glance his direction as I sew, sew, sew. When he hits a goal he runs to me for a "ticket". I give him a little scrap of fabric which he runs to show Grampop. There's a little collection of "Tickets" on the coffee table. LOL

Because I had read up on my machine on this site I also knew that when the tension looked off to rethread both the bobbin and the upper thread - problem solved. I've sewn enough to have to replace the bobbin - that's a lot under the circumstances. Now how long will it be before I truly REMEMBER that it resets to the default whenever I turn it off???? That needle clunking down on the foot is just not a good sound!

Now TOMORROW I'll have 2 grandboys - one age 2 and the other 3 - let's see if I can convince them both to play soccer in the kitchen and be rewarded with Tickets so I can sew! :)

np3 12-27-2010 08:33 PM

Enjoy every minute of it!

Thanks Pickles - I read the manual online before Santa brought the machine so have been just trouble shooting since then. Must have missed something!

sandilee 12-27-2010 11:46 PM

I have the same machine and I love it. There are directions in the manual about resetting that option.

SulaBug 12-28-2010 12:47 AM

Love your gift! Enjoy!

Quilter7x 12-28-2010 12:33 PM

What wonderful, thoughtful gifts. You're going to LOVE those little scissors! They're great for snipping threads as you finish sewing a line, snipping while doing embroidery and if you just need to take out a stitch or two, they are great. Of course, all your gifts are great. You have a wonderful family.

How are you making out today with the two boys? I love your "ticket" idea - not so sure Granpop does, but I sure do!

Margie 12-28-2010 12:49 PM
