Circles of simply colors

1 Attachment(s)
I saw a picture of blocks of this pattern and I have followed links to the company and designer but I can't find the pattern. It was supposed to be by Prairie Grass Patterns but I didn't find it there. I drafted my own octagon of 3-1/2 inch squares but it isn't perfect and a little small for a block at 10-3/4 inches. I can try drafting it from a 4 inch square and see if that ends up 12-1/2 but it still won't be perfect. I haven't decided if I want to bother drafting again or continue to search for the pattern. It is a cute designs as when the blocks are sewn together they form connecting circles.

Interesting. This would be a good stash buster for me. Thanks for posting

Barb in Louisiana 01-02-2017 07:47 AM

Tartan, would you post the link to the original quilt/picture you saw so that we could see the original? What you have done is good, but it's not circles.

Tartan 01-02-2017 08:09 AM

I found the picture on Pinterest and if you use the little magnifying glass and type in Circles of simply color, it is the one by graceandfavour.blogspot.ca. It was posted on that blog on Dec 13 2012 or Google it. I am computer challenged and don't know how to do a direct link to just the picture.

Kitsie 01-02-2017 09:04 AM

Here is a link from Pintrest: (I googled the pattern name)

Oh, I really like the way you did this...may have to adapt something like this for a project.

QUILTNMO 01-02-2017 09:59 AM

very neat !!

RedGarnet222 01-02-2017 09:59 AM

What a fun pattern for a block tartan. No wonder you are enamored by it. I enjoy doing snowball blocks.

Tartan 01-02-2017 10:14 AM

Thankyou Kitsie for providing a link to the picture!

Jordan 01-02-2017 10:18 AM

I think you did a great job by just a visual and I really like the results you have done. Thanks for the link and picture.

Russian Rubix is what I found in the Prairie Grass patterns. (I like the pattern and had to go find it . . .)

Russian Rubix: Quilting Pattern #111
$9.00

jenbro 01-02-2017 10:38 AM

Hi Tartan, I have found the pattern for sale at two sites. The pattern is called Russian Rubix Quilting Pattern at Priarie Grass Patterns by Apil Rosental.

Hope this helps.

redquilter 01-02-2017 10:48 AM

That's really nice. I love greens but also think it would be great as a scrappy.

jenbro 01-02-2017 10:56 AM

The Russin Rubix pattern is also available as a PDF

Thanks everyone! I looked and looked but you are obviously better lookers! :DI thought it will be a great pattern to use up misc. charm squares.

jetayre 01-02-2017 01:07 PM

Can you use snowball blocks? Making some with just three triangles corners(those would be the circle connections, then just a background square of whatever size in the center of circle created? Just a quick supposition after a quick look....

Barb in Louisiana 01-02-2017 03:47 PM

Tartan, you did a great job at recreating it. Looks like you are on your way. I don't think you need a pattern at all. Looking forward to seeing the end result. If you are snowballing the corners, you will have a lot of little bitty HST's to put in your border. That would be really cool.

Mimmis57 01-03-2017 03:31 AM

Did you try googling octogon shapes? here are a lot out there.. I really like that pattern!

lindaschipper 01-03-2017 04:48 AM

Tartan....I found it under Prairie Grass Patterns also...named "Rubix too #118' cost was $9.00.

Cogito 01-03-2017 05:40 AM

Tartan I really like the way your block looks. It may just be an illusion but in April's pattern it looks like the "snowballs" are huge compared to the center white square. I did smile when I read your comment about 10 3/4" block being small. I rarely make blocks even 8" haha! Mine are usually between 3"&6". I say keep going with what you have and add more blocks to get the size you want. I would love to see your finished quilt!

That is an interesting block, nice job on figuring it out, I went to her website and found the pattern also, she has a templates for this particular pattern and another similar pattern called Rubix Too

http://prairiegrasspatterns.bigcarte...ng-pattern-111
http://prairiegrasspatterns.bigcarte...ng-pattern-118
http://prairiegrasspatterns.bigcarte...gory/templates

Tartan 01-03-2017 12:51 PM

Gwen, thanks for posting about the templates. No matter how carefully I draft the octagon to have 8 equal sides, by the time I trace and cut out, there are variances.

Greenheron 01-03-2017 01:30 PM

That's a disturbing pattern--intuitively I want equilateral octagons but that's not what I see.

GwenH 01-03-2017 01:43 PM

You're very welcome Tartan, hopefully that helps, I think I read that you can get a PDF of the patttern also.

amrosenthal 01-03-2017 10:09 PM

Hi Ladies! I'm so glad you like my pattern, and were able to find it on my website! Let me know if I can help with anything! xoxo April<button id="tw_schedule_btn" style="padding: 4px 6px; position: absolute; left: 141px; top: 840px; background-image: linear-gradient(rgb(255, 255, 255), rgb(240, 240, 240)); border: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); color: rgb(95, 95, 95); cursor: pointer; font-weight: bold; text-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 1px; white-space: nowrap; border-top-left-radius: 3px; border-top-right-radius: 3px; border-bottom-right-radius: 3px; border-bottom-left-radius: 3px; font-size: 11px; z-index: 8675309; display: none; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">Schedule</button>

twinkie 01-04-2017 10:54 AM

April,
love both versions...hmmm...I have a birthday coming up...I might need to get myself a little gift! :D

fred singer 01-04-2017 01:19 PM

looks interesting pattern

Kassaundra 01-04-2017 01:22 PM

Greenheron, The sides are equal it is just the unsewn seam allowance that makes them seem different.

sJens 01-04-2017 03:25 PM

Like this pattern would be great to do each set of blocks different colors.

sewbizgirl 01-04-2017 03:48 PM

Love the pattern!

Jingle 01-04-2017 06:54 PM

Tartan; I like the ones you did and would just keep making the squares until it is big enough.

Becky's Crafts 01-04-2017 07:24 PM

Looks like a wonderful pattern! You did great designing it from a picture!!

amrosenthal 01-05-2017 09:07 AM

Alright friends, all those who ordered patterns are shipping today. :) xoxo<button id="tw_schedule_btn" style="padding: 4px 6px; position: absolute; left: 141px; top: 840px; background-image: linear-gradient(rgb(255, 255, 255), rgb(240, 240, 240)); border: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); color: rgb(95, 95, 95); cursor: pointer; font-weight: bold; text-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 1px; white-space: nowrap; border-top-left-radius: 3px; border-top-right-radius: 3px; border-bottom-right-radius: 3px; border-bottom-left-radius: 3px; font-size: 11px; z-index: 8675309; display: none; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">Schedule</button>

ctyankee 01-05-2017 09:28 AM

Love that pattern! You did a great job in drafting it on your own, Tartan, but maybe the templates will make the process easier. I am going to look into it myself. I see another scrappy quilt in my future! Thanks for sharing!
