I have some with a grid like that from Joanns. Not that big but it was in the Fons and Porter section.

Wow!!! What a great class :D:D:D Your blocks are beautiful and those quilts are so pretty!!!

Jim's Gem 06-12-2010 09:22 PM

Pretty blocks and the quilts are beautiful. Are you going to piece your blocks into a beautiful quilt like one of those?

Actually, my blocks don't look so good. I'm going to finish them and learn what I can and call it a crazy quilt and then make another one that actually looks amazing. LOL

The one on the right is mine. Let's just say I learned a lot.

Good for you! I am so glad you got to go and learn this. I like your blocks too. Isn't it fun to learn?/Regards, Dorothy

clem55 06-13-2010 05:21 AM

I'm wondering. When you take a class like that, is it then okay for you to post on here what you learned? I mean, to do a little turtorial? I understand about designs or patterns that are printed ( copyright) but I learned to sew from a teacher,(highschool) and we had books that showed how -to pictures and printed instructions. Does that mean that I can never teach another person those same methods, even if it means sketching out illustrations or printing out my directions for them? If you arent using said book and copying word for word, just doing what you remember of the instructions, why wouldn't that be allowed? Isn"t this how we all teach others?

Bevanger 06-13-2010 05:22 AM

Wow! Thanks for sharing. They are all very pretty :-D

CarrieAnne 06-13-2010 05:22 AM

My husband put up a wall for me to use made from sheets of plywood, covered with eggcrate bedpadding (wrong side out) and covered with a flannel sheet. It was perfect already but I found the grid at JFS and now it really is even more helpful. Price was about $19 and it's the size of a full size quilt. You easily could purchase 2 and adapt it to make it bigger. I really do love mine. And I love some of the quilts pictured here! My "Hope to Do List" is getting longer and longer and longer. HaHa

sewjoyce 06-13-2010 06:36 AM

Julie, I love your blocks!! Don't see a thing wrong with them! And I'd love to take that class -- looks like everyone had a fantastic time! :D

brushandthimble 06-13-2010 06:42 AM

awesome class! love your block colors, lime green is one of my favorite colors (next to red) hum, never thought to try the two together.
I will be putting the teacher on my wish list.

quiltinggrandmaca 06-13-2010 07:40 AM

Those quilts are amazing.

This was a packed, very fast-paced class, way too much for a tutorial here, sorry. Plus, Margaret does this to make money, I'm sure.

Wow nice blocks. Are you at the Calico Cat in Auburn?
How long did those blocks take you. They are pretty.

bearisgray 06-13-2010 08:14 AM

Does she have books out with this/these techniques?

Now that I've seen your post, it seems kind of familiar.

here is link to her web-site:

Everyone looks like they had so much fun. Thanks for sharing your pictures with us. By the way, I love your blocks. That is the kind of class I like to go to. One afternoon and you see results.

Tootsie 06-13-2010 08:41 AM

Wow! Very nice, and I like your blocks! Great colors!

dkabasketlady 06-13-2010 09:43 AM

Wow! It looks like everyone did a great job! I odn't see a thing wrong with your blocks. We're too critical of our own work.

Crying here. The Calico Cat is gone. Mary was tired and no one came forward to buy the shop. The good news is she met a wonderful man who loves her very much and treats her like a queen. She said she didn't think she would ever marry again after her hubby died, let alone date, but love finds you when you aren't looking! I can't remember when the wedding is going to be or if she already got married.

I was wondering what shop you were in as well. I usually haunt Taylor Creek, The Quilt Barn, and Quiltworks Northwest.

STEMSAM 06-13-2010 12:31 PM

Beautiful.

Hi Kas. I am from Renton originally. I was at a quilt shop there not to long ago and can't remember the name of it but its where the Sears use to be downtown. Nice place. The Quilt Barn is great in Puyallup. Where is Quiltworks NW.? I have not heard of that one. I'll have to check it out for my next trip over. I had heard the Calico Cat was closing. I guess I forgot. I am glad to know Mary is having a great retirement. To bad someone didn't take over. She'll be missed.

pab58 06-13-2010 01:55 PM

Those are spectacular!! ;-)

rootyr 06-13-2010 01:56 PM

Wonderful!

UglyCook 06-13-2010 02:02 PM

The book we used is called Easy Pieces and she also has a DVD that goes with it.

We were at the Kingston Quilt Shop.

Closer to Auburn is the Wild Rose, where I hope that Margaret will soon come to teach.

ann clare 06-13-2010 02:22 PM

Beautiful blocks and colors

Kas 06-13-2010 06:06 PM

Ok, well, I gotta find the Wild Rose! I think maybe the downtown Renton shop is Pieces? Was it across from Fred Meyer? If not, then I have no idea and am missing out! Quiltworks Northwest is in Bellvue. They moved not to long ago, but they are just one street over and the space is really nice. They have tons of beading stuff if you are into that.

UglyCook 06-13-2010 06:31 PM

Yes, the one in Renton is across the parking lot from Fred Meyer.

The Wild Rose in Orting is really lovely, in an old saloon, with a stunning view of Mt. Rainier. We should meet up there!

littlehud 06-13-2010 07:32 PM

Wow, what a fun day. Her quilts are beautiful. How inspiring.

I think it would be worth the price of the class just for the part where she brings out her quilts and talks about them!

Sheree from Chicago 06-14-2010 08:05 AM

Fantastic! Love modern PP. Thanks for sharing!

gollytwo 06-14-2010 08:12 AM

I took a couple of classes with Margaret years ago at QBL.
Her classes are such fun. I love her.
