Very nice.

barnbum 02-15-2010 05:10 AM

what type of machine do you have?
Babylock Quest. After having an old Singer--I found this machine to be quite temperamental, but I finally figure out what she wanted and I give it to her. The tension can get a bit funky at times... other than that I love it.

I am totally impressed with your thread (you have them all!)
Yeah... I had lots of other thread, but had to redo everything. Since I kept going to the store to get more, once I discovered what worked, it made sense to get this display. It was so much cheaper than buying it other wise. I usually only use about 5 different colors, but now I can play. Although, it's so pretty, I hate to use any. :-D

OMG i wish i had that much fabric, i would be having a lot of fun
I do have lots of fun with it! :-D It's really grown in the past few years as I've played with buying now that I can. But, now it's time to sew it all into something. There is another package on the way... but I've sold some quilts lately to cover costs for a while. Space is the issue now. I'm trying to be good... it just doesn't last long enough. And I just redid the color ideas on a design I made--so it needed colors I didn't have.

Looks lovely Karla! And now I know what to do with the couple of wooden ladders we have laying out in the barn, that came with the house! :-D

sandpat 02-15-2010 05:46 AM

Great organizing Karla! I'm actually just plain ole jealous of your stash. I wanna come play in it! Especially since I love your taste in fabrics!!! :-D :-D

barnbum 02-15-2010 05:50 AM

sandpat--I just noticed the wooden running horse hanging in there doesn't show in the photos... I love it. I'll have to get photos of the horse stuff I squeezed in there to show you.

sandpat 02-15-2010 06:02 AM

Would love to see it Karla!

zz-pd 02-15-2010 04:09 PM

wow Im drooling to all that thread and fabric, amazing

Stormeejean 02-15-2010 04:14 PM

What a great stash! I love your sewing room. It is nice to see how others organize their sewing rooms. Isn't it funny how we sewers can make a sewing room out of any room in the house. Just give me a room with a window. My sewing room is the living room in our house and the extra bedroom is the living room.

earthwalker 02-15-2010 04:18 PM

What an enchanting work space....Wow, you are one organised woman who can still maintain that warm, homely feeling. I take my hat off to you!

Mundy Woodbeck 02-15-2010 04:37 PM

Sorry they looked like jelly rolls, strips that are cut into 2 1/2 strips but good job though! Still love the room!

Shibori 02-15-2010 06:17 PM

I love how you have the strips on ladders but I have a cat that would think they were the funnest toys and you put it up just for him.

This room is so nice. Love how you put your fabrics to-
gether. Good luck with all your projects. When buying
Fabrics how my yards do you purchase when there is no
project in mine. I am very new to quilting but love to
purchase fabric. Your room gave me some very good
ideals for my office/quilting room.

Lneal 02-16-2010 02:31 AM

Wow! This must be the room of a seasoned quilter. Now I would love to see some of the quilts you produce. You are so organized barbum.

barnbum 02-16-2010 03:29 AM

Oh goodness... I've posted many. If you click on my name you can seem posts--you just have to weed out the horse ones. Or you can see many of them on my website--address is in my signature.

Purchasing the fabric is so much fun!! I've never purchased too much at a time. I was shocked to learn folks buy a whole bolt. (Neat idea!) With no particular plans I've purchased three yards before. If I know it's for the back of baby quilts--I recently bought four yards of a super cute flannel. No more fabric gets purchased now unless I know exactly what it's for. Just last night I used up nearly all of some solid red...and I might have to grab more to finish a project...but I'll just get a half yard.

Deecee 02-16-2010 03:57 AM

I'm drooling over all that stash and great idea for the ladders. We use 2 ladders at work to display linens - I wonder if anyone would notice if I borrowed them?

Can't wait to see finished pic of project on ironing board.

2 Attachment(s)
Here are the horse things in there--one is behind the closet door, so it didn't show in the photos, and the other is a picture I've had for 21 years--horses with a quote from Walt Whitman--one of my favorite writers. It starts "I think I could turn and live with animals...." I just love that... the combination of the photo and the words.

The picture came down for a day because the ladder was going where it was, but I took out a hall tree and put the ladder where it was. Then the screws were borrowed from that place to put up the thread rack...so I need another nail.

sandpat 02-16-2010 05:53 AM

Karla, I have a running iron horse very similar to yours. Mine is very heavy and mounted on an ugly wooden board...my DH inheritted it from a great aunt...type of person who knew he loved horses. It must be hung with toggles and I don't have room for it in the house right now...but I still like it.

I really really like the picture of the 2 horses... I love the poem by Walt Whitman. It does sound just like you actually!

barnbum 02-16-2010 05:56 AM

My running horse is made of wood--it's very light.

That's neat you think the poem sounds like me!! Thank you!! :-D

Vet comes between 10-10:30 for Tucker's gelding...

But I'm way off topic.

sandpat 02-16-2010 06:03 AM

We'll be thinking of you and your little boy.. :D

lots2do 02-16-2010 06:48 AM

Is the Breathe saying a decal or from a stencil?
I love that...

lindy 02-16-2010 07:30 AM

You have made wonderful use of a small area! Good job on the organization. Thanks for sharing. It gives me some ideas.

pal 02-16-2010 11:05 AM

Your wonderful, organized room makes me want to clean up
my act down here. Think I'll stay on the computer until
the feeling passes......

MotherDuck 02-16-2010 06:40 PM

Where did you get that 'Breathe' wall art?? Would love it for our home!

It's a decal... I gave a friend a wall hanging she fell in love with and she gave me that. Awesome, huh? It was my very favorite one. I can't remember the company... I can find it though.

MotherDuck 02-16-2010 07:36 PM

thanks - look forward to checking out if I can get this decal!

Oklahoma Suzie 02-17-2010 09:59 AM

wow, very nice room and love all your fabric.

Carm 02-17-2010 12:24 PM

:D Great room! It doesn't matter that it is small, mine is 8'x14'. It is also a guest room, so it has a twin size bed in it. I LOVE the idea of using ladders for the material strips!!

soniboo 02-17-2010 03:18 PM

Great room! Love it all!

azam 02-17-2010 04:09 PM

I like your idea using ladders. Hmm, may have to try that.

Sewing Grandma 02-18-2010 06:59 AM

Wonderful room. I don't have room for a design wall in my sewing room but do have bookcases for fabric as do you. I put the roller type shades on my bookcase, adhesive sprayed felt to the front of the shades and can pull them down when I need to use it for a design. When no in use you can put the shade up, or keep it down to protect your fabric from dust. Works great for me.

Great idea! I've been thinking of doing that. You've motivated me, maybe I can get that done this weekend. Thanks!

Sewing Grandma 02-18-2010 10:23 AM

Glad I could inspire someone. It is a lot better than having a design board taking up space. Have fun quilting.

barnbum 02-18-2010 10:39 AM

adhesive sprayed felt
Wow--I didn't know there was such a thing. Thanks.

wraez 02-18-2010 12:00 PM

Great job!

I was gonna ask you to come and do mine too but see that you live too far away, darn it.

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA

Ilovemydogs 02-19-2010 09:45 AM

Love your fabric stash. It is really neat to see how everyone organizes things and how we all have our spaces set up.
