Collin's Batik Quilt
3 Attachment(s)
Started one quilt for Collin (DGS 19 years old) and decided it was too boring. Bought a package of Benartex 10" layer cakes in Dark Batiks. My original pattern was to cut each into 4 charm squares but they weren't 10", more like 9.50. So I just decided they were too darn pretty to cut up and since I could buy some extra fabric for the cornerstones, I made this pattern up. It is a queen size quilt and the pictures do not begin to show how beautiful the fabric really is. The pictures look pastel in some areas and it is not pastel at all. It is completely machine sewed as I even sewed the binding on (for the first time). The backing was some cherry/orange fabric I had here in my stash and Marie, my trusty 85 year old long armer, quilted it with black thread, makes the back quite interesting. As they say on TV "This has exceeded my expectations" !!!

Very effective pattern. Love the black with the cornerstones.
Georgous quilt. I love the black sashing and although I can't see it well, I am sure quilting it with black thread really enhances it.
That's really nice. He'll love it.
I love the colors. Great job!
Very lovely. The black is perfect for sashing. I am a fan of cornerstones in the sashing.
WOW!! What a great idea and it turned out gorgeous! Loved how you used the black to separate each block.

Lovely quilt.
Came out stunningly!
That came out very well!
I am currently doing a great many stars on a quilt for DGD. I bought Hoffman Bali Crackers which I found were mainly 10" one way and 9 7/8" the other, certainly inconvenient since I wanted to make all of the pieces into HSTs. While the colors are great, anyone planning this sort of thing should be aware of the problem. |
Very pretty! You did a great job!!
Simply beautiful!
