Hmm.. I didn't start to learn to quilt, (which was recently) till i was past that age...i think they need to do a new survey lol

Don't remember the fabric, but sure do like the quilt!!

Just gorgeous - the quilt. The numbers don't sound accurate to me.

What a great quilt. I like it very much. Great job.

Wonder where they got their information. Our big quilt group at church has all members way beyond those ages and none nearly that young. :)

Very pretty quilt!

I guess I started early! I was 19 when I finished my first queen size quilt. I'm 21 now, and about 10 quilts later, I'm still going strong. =]

not in my area.... and I am 49 ++ :)

Not in my area either, I guess that just leaves all of us who are much older completely out huh? lol. I wonder if the survery that was taken either forgot to add us because the ones doing the survey thought we were just too old to matter or able to do anything anymore. lol.

I just reread the article. It's in the Sept/Oct 2012 McCall's Quilting magazine, article called "The Birth of Modern Quilting". The article stated "While 58% of modern quilter are between 26-45 years old, over 29% are over the age of 45." I wonder what it makes me at 68!

You say you are 68, I am 78, and my husband is 86. How do we fit in? I've been quilting since 1989.

Beautiful work! I'm jealous of all those neat stitch types.

There's a bunch of us young'uns hanging around, but we're few and far between. I'm 29 and I still get the odd look from other patrons at the LQS. Thankfully the employees know me by now!

However, there is such a thing as Modern Quilting and that's what the survey is referring to. I'm still new to the quilting world, but modern quilting is quite different visually than traditional quilting and appeals to a much younger set of seamstresses!

The article is worded rather specifically. Modern quilting is a specific genre. If they are talking about the genre of "modern" then I would agree with the % of quilters in that age group.

Your quilt is lovely. When I read the statement that McCall made, I noted the word, "modern" and I immediately thought of the type of quilting, so I agree with with feline fanatic's assessment above. I didn't get interested in quilting until 10 years after retiring.

You did an excellent job with this quilt.

I love this quilt, would have never guessed that the squares were 30 years old! I am old enough to remember the fabric but don't. Would love to see it remade as your quilt is quite charming. You did an amazing job!!!!!

Wonderful.

Your quilt is lovely, but I think the statistics were made up by someone trying to get younger people involved because it would be good for business. All you have to do is look around where quilters gather. Maybe the young ones are in hiding? Or maybe they are just too busy to go to guilds and quilt shows. Or maybe quilting makes us look old. :o
