Here's another project I promised to show when it got finished. I just read an article that said most quilters are between the ages of 27 and 49. If you fall somewhere in between, there's not a chance you will remember this fabic. It was made by Concord about 30 years ago and I finally got the courage to try to do something with it. It's a lot prettier as my pictures are blurry, but the red border is quilted in hearts. Hope you like and will be incouraged to drag out your old fabric!

Diane007 07-31-2012 09:13 AM

Nice

quilters are between 27 and 49
not in my area.... and I am 49 ++ :)

Neesie 07-31-2012 09:16 AM

Very pretty!

I find it hard to believe most quilters are in that age group. Perhaps the survey didn't reach enough older quilters, in order for them to be properly counted.

I agree. I just started quilted 2 years ago when I retired. Had an interest, but was traveling all the time!

Beautiful quilt, I don't remember the fabric but it sure is pretty.

I just reread the article. It's in the Sept/Oct 2012 McCall's Quilting magazine, article called "The Birth of Modern Quilting". The article stated "While 58% of modern quilter are between 26-45 years old, over 29% are over the age of 45." I wonder what it makes me at 68!

feline fanatic 07-31-2012 10:15 AM

I love your quilt. The fancy stitches you used are so in keeping with the crazy quilts of the era.

The article is worded rather specifically. Modern quilting is a specific genre. If they are talking about the genre of "modern" then I would agree with the % of quilters in that age group.

Sandra in Minnesota 07-31-2012 11:17 AM

Love your quilt - I have not seen a "real" crazy quilt in the long time. It is amazing all the stitches the ladies invented in those days to make these quilts. Wonderful!

cindy4857 07-31-2012 11:34 AM

Well I'm not in that age bracket (i'm older than 50) maybe they meant that most quilters start quilting at those ages. Any how beautiful quilt. You really did the fabric proud. Great job.

AMEN to that!!!

LovingIzabella 07-31-2012 11:35 AM

This is beautiful! Thank you for sharing. Though I do fit in to that age range, I do think it depends on the type of quilting being done? Art quilts versus landscape versus traditional maybe?

laceybritt 07-31-2012 11:43 AM

Not in my area either and I am 49+ too lol!!! Even on my online guild more than 3/4 (or more) are 49+.

I love the fabrics and the way you quilted it!!!

Tweety2911 07-31-2012 11:50 AM

I don't agree with the age stats. Most of the quilter's I know are older than that!
Beautiful quilt!

BrendaY 07-31-2012 12:48 PM

I started quilting about 2 years ago, and I'll be 69 years young in August! Having so much fun with my newest hobby!

2 years for me too. I'll be 68 on August 22. Always had interest, but traveled too much with work. Would have a long arm by now if I had started quilting earlier, but don't want to learn how to use one now!

I was in that bracket, 29, when I started quilting...only 41 years ago...:)

Jingle 07-31-2012 06:15 PM

Very pretty quilt, don't remember the fabrics. I haven't seen 59 for quite awhile. Just turned 67. I started at 21 or 22 years old. My Quilting Daughter started about 40 or so. It is like polls, you never know anyone who has been polled.

debcavan 07-31-2012 06:18 PM

That is so cool with the fussy cut centers. I have fabric from way back in 85

Lori S 07-31-2012 07:04 PM

I love some those older fabrics from the early 80's . Still have some and work with them periodically. Pretty soon they will be reproducing them calling them "vintage". Your quilt has such warm colors .. its irresistable.

earthwalker 07-31-2012 07:07 PM

Very pretty. 49 here....and let me tell you, I'll be quilting 'til they cart me out the door feet first!

burchquilts 08-01-2012 12:46 AM

Oh, what a gorgeous quilt! I don't remember this fabric from back in the day (yeah, I was around & kicking back when Fred & Wilma Flintstone were dating... LOL!) but I sure do love it! I just love this quilt period! Great job!

Me too! I started so late, I have to hurry to make a quilt for each family member before I go out the door feet first!

Great quilt! I love your topiary trees that you appliqued along the edge. They really set off the fussy cut Log Cabin blocks. Now every one will be looking for that fabric.:)

Lots of luck trying to find this fabric after 30 years. I did make a mistake, it was made by Peter Pan instead of Concord. This was pillow fabric with matching coord. Still have some of the pillow top print left 2or 3 yards. Any suggestions?

Beautiful quilting !!!! I am older than that too but I don't remember this gorgeous fabric either. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful quilt. Too bad the survey is wrong!!!!!!!

kathbug 08-02-2012 04:00 AM

I don't know about that but I just started quilting and I am 57 and all the people I know that quilt are at least that and more!

I think you nailed it but most comments are going with the knee jerk "that's not accurate " statement without really understanding what the "modern" quilt movement is ( think Elizabeth Hartman, people)

rdem 08-02-2012 04:22 AM

very nice...love the quilting on it ....gives me ideas

I bought a janome 7700 this year and I paid a lot of money for all those fancy stitches and by darn, I'm going to use them! Of course I know that I must experiment with different threads, but here are some more examples of my "experiments". These are receiving blankets for my granddaughter's baby. They were done with 40wt, 100% cotton thread by signature. I have friends who have never used their fancy stitches on their machines!

At our quilt retreats, there is not one person under 45, at the quilt stores I frequent there are very few people under 45. It must be that the respondents to those questionnaires were that age and the folks who were too busy quilting did not answer and they were over 45. LOL

I think I misunderstood the article. Apparently, I shouldn't read articles above my knowledge. When the article stated "Modern" I took myself as a modern day quilter (quilting in this day and age). I'm just a little old great grandmother trying to made up for lost quilting time!

rosiewell 08-02-2012 06:57 AM

very pretty, I guess I do not fit into the "most" Way older than most

nena 08-02-2012 07:21 AM

How neat. Love the quilt.

quilter68 08-02-2012 07:26 AM

Thia is an adorable quilt. Love your fabrics and stitching!

BTW- 95% of my quilting guild are retired ladies.
