Comfort quilt for my DGD's friend... urgent status
2 Attachment(s)
This is a very sad situation. My DGD's good friend, who is 11, is going thru a very hard time. About 2 weeks ago, they learned that her dad had a very aggressive kind of blood cancer. I was going to make her a comfort quilt to hug while she missed her dad during his hospital stays and chemo. Having surgery to remove some lymph nodes and prepare him for starting chemo was this past Thursday. Unexpectedly, he had a bloodclot during that night and passed away from heart blockage. The family is devastated. They had not even had time to deal with the idea that he had cancer and might die, and wham he is gone. We found out Friday night.
Saturday I cut out the comfort quilt. Sunday I pieced and layered it. Today I quilted and bound it and DH got it to the PO 10 min. before they closed. This is an all time record for me and would not have been possible except for my having had a panel to work with. All 9 fabrics and the panel were in my stash, as well as the fleece for the back. I am pleased with how it came out. I'd call it controlled scrappy. My fibro is kicking up now and I'm down for a few days, but it was worth it to have this quilt for a little girl who has just lost her dad so unexpectedly. |
First sending prayers to the family and yours to I'm sure affected your DGD also. I'm sure your gift of warmth will be readily accepted and how kind of you to do this for your DGD's friend. Excuse me I need to go get my Puffs!! Just wanted to add, I'm proud of you for doing this for both girls they will never forget your kind gesture!

Oh my goodness! How terribly sad. My heart breaks for the little girl and her family. You are kind and loving to spend the entire weekend making this lovely quilt. I know it will mean so much to her and her mom. Bless you heart.
Wildyard: It doesn't surprise me at all that you would make such a kind and loving gesture. Especially sad because of the time of year and the suddenness of the tragedy. My hope is that the young daughter can find some comfort from your lovely quilt.
Just beautiful. It will be a comfort to her. My dad died when I was ten years and someone, who I never figured out to be, gave me a pillowcase "to catch your tears and hold your sweet dreams and keep you close to your father". It meant everything to me at night. You have really blessed this little girl with a great gift of comfort.
A beautiful quilt and a beautiful gesture on your part.
That is a beautiful and special quilt you made. Your love will be felt, and your family is blessed to have you.

Wow, the reason behind the lovely quilt is so special and will mean so much to the little girl. Just to think that someone was thinking of her and went to this extent to soothe her heart!

First I hope you have recovered for all the beautiful work you did on that quilt. Bless you and the family!!!
How tragically sad for this little girl. You are so thoughtful to make this for her and I am in awe of how quickly you managed to get it done.
Sending prayers for her and her family. How sad, especially at this time of year. What a kind gesture to send a comfort quilt for her to hang on during this tragic time. Bless you.
Beautiful quilt! I'm amazed that you would do so much piecing even though you knew it would have to be done in a hurry. I would have probably taken the safe route and done just borders all around.
The quilt is perfect for a young girl and the giver is a a sweet, generous and caring. I also love YoBroSew's story about the pillowcase.
I thank you all so much for being so very caring and supportive. This kind of support is part of what keeps me going when things get tough. This board is the best!!!
I wish I had heard the story of the pillowcase before as I love it and would have liked to add that to the quilt. It is such a sweet and thoughtful thing. I will remember it tho for another time. |
OH! I am SO SORRY to hear the sad news! I'm sure your kind and thoughtful gift will provide comfort to that little girl. I'm saying special prayers for the family and you too!!

Awe, this is so sad. It's especially difficult seeing that empty chair during the holidays. The quilt is adorable, God bless you for doing this for this little girl, prayers that it will bring comfort.
What a very special treasure. Thank you for reaching out to a broken hearted child and thank you for sharing. It is a beautiful quilt and it will give so so much comfort.
So young to have to deal with this loss. What a great thing for you to do. I made one for my brother and before I could get it complete, he passed so I gave it to my sisters autistic grandson and told him every time he wrapped himself up in the quilt, it was a hug from Uncle Carson. He loves it and I am sure this little girl will find comfort wrapping up in this quilt. Great job.
This is heartbreaking & sad beyond words. My prayers are with the family with hopes that God gives them the strength to get through this tragedy. So grateful that you were able to do this for their daughter. You have such a giving, caring heart & this is the type of thing that will help them deal with this terrible loss. May God bless them & you for this.

So glad you were able to do something like that lovely quilt. I was just under 7 when I suddenly lost my father from a ruptured appendix, so I can appreciate what she is going through.

So generous of you to do that for that little girl. So sad it had to be given for a devastating event. My prayers to one and all.
