Commisioned table runner ...
3 Attachment(s)
My neighbor wanted a table runner from some fall batik fabric she had. But, she knew I didn't sew for money. So she was smart, she traded my services for a beautiful stack of fat quarter oriental fabrics and some flat fold of the matching main fabric.
Oh yes, she was sly and cunning and knew I couldn't resist those lovelies. LOL... So I asked her what pattern she wanted the runner to be, but she just wanted the batiks to be the show and uncut. Well, ok I get that, I said. I provided the backing fabric, batting, threads, quilting and binding fabric and of course my time to make it for her. Here it is all finished. You get to see it before she does... LOL! I used a fabric that could be used for summer on the back side so now she has a two for one runner. Here are pictures of the fabric, the runner and the backing. I hope you like them. Huh, I hope she likes it. |
Beautiful, I love both sides and am sure your neighbor will too. Smart of her to "make an offer you couldn't refuse".
|
They are beautiful batiks and your runner is lovely!
|
nice Batik colours
|
Oh I love the lighter fabric!! I wouldn't say No to oriental fabric either!! good for you.
|
It's beautiful on both sides! I'm sure she will love it ~ good deal all around!
|
A great way to showcase two great batiks.
I particularly like the autumn one ... do you know what batik company it is from? Please? and Thanks! |
You two made a great deal! Nice runner!! :)
|
I love your table runner but really love the hibiscus flower side. It's so delicate. I'm sure she'll love it and great job you did. Sue

very pretty, love the quilting too

Thank you all so very much. It was a really fast finish compared to other runners I have made. But, like I said this is what she wanted. There was no name on the batik (front fabric), the backing fabric I bought at Hancock Fabrics in sparks, nevada some time ago. and the binding is a lovely marbled brown I had left over from a fall bargello quilt. The backing fabric was so nice I bought more than I needed thinking that it would be nice as a summer tote bag. I originally got it to make myself placemats for my breakfast bar that you see here.
I will give it to her next time I see her. I don't like going over to her house. Too many people I don't know. |

That is a beautiful runner, both sides. Sometimes simple is best, let the fabric do the work! And a great trade, something she wanted for something you love. Good all around, if you ask me!
|
I love the idea of using two different seasons on one runner ! Can't decide which one I like best...both are wonderful !
|
Sounds like a great deal for both of you. Beautiful two sided table runner.
|
Gorgeous and reversible makes it twice as nice. Thanks for sharing
|
I like that you let the fabrics be the stars of the show.
They are lovely. |
Actually I like the simplicity of this runner. The fabrics on both sides are lovely enough to stand alone.
|
What a beautiful table runner, both sides.

Like I mentioned, there was no name on the fabric, but, you might try Hancock's of Paducah on line. They have tons of nice batiks.
Or if anyone else happens to know??? Please do tell! :) |
Beautiful fabrics and quilting! Smart lady!

It is beautiful and I'm so glad you were able to get what you wanted out of it. I'm sure she will be happy. I think she is smart to make such beautiful fabric a focal point. Great job!
