yes, I am beginning to realize I am barely scrappy at all... I have to admit I'm a "control" freak...

What a happy quilt! Any teenage girl would love to have that on her bed. I love the little pops of purple scattered here and there. Great job!
I thought Bonnie Hunter's quilts are controlled scrappy quilts. Your quilt is beautiful.
Your quilt is pretty, I prefer controlled ones. Barb

That is a very pretty quilt.

Really, really fabulous scrappy ! Love the colors.
This is sooo pretty! ! Great job!

It's a beautiful quilt! I have trouble completely letting go with scrappy quilts too.
I too have a hard time doing totally scrappy. I love how Bonnie Hunters come out. I did a couple of the online mystery quilt train rides on here. I forced myself to go scrappy and they came out pretty. A couple of time the colors I was sewing together hurt my brain but it came out pretty in the end.

Looks great...Bright..

Love the colors! I am slowly working on one of Bonnie's and learning as I go. Deb

Ginger, being totally scrappy doesn't mean you throw good sense to the wind. You keep your values and use lights, med & darks, just like log cabins - the patterns still there but with more colors.

I really hate matchy, matchy, but I don't mind making one color the same or even two - I've done this with a single light, a single dominant color, or another color that suits me. The good thing is you make the choice and that's all that matters. Make yourself happy and don't worry about anyone else. Someone will always love your quilt.
Ginger I apologize if this sounded preachy - was not my intention. I do feel this way but could have said it in a nicer way and not so snarky! Totally not meant that way. If I was speaking to you I'm sure it would have been fine, but sometimes writing makes things harsh, rather than conversation.

I find it impossible to go scrappy....yet I'm not a controlling person either.
I like other people's scrappies but find it very difficult to be uncontrolled so my scrappies are not really scrappies. Just the nature of the beast I guess!
This is really a lovely quilt.
love the colours they really pop. beautiful quilt.
Cute quilt.

Very pretty.

I love your controlled scrappy. It is so pretty with those pretty colors. I am more of a controlled scrappy person too. I think it's just whatever makes one happy when they sew/quilt.
Great quilt. Initially into my adventure with quilting, I had difficulty doing a scrappy quilt, even controlled scrappy had it's difficulties. After making 10 Plus family reunion quilts, where the only "control" I had was usually just a color, I find it easier to "let go" and make scrappy quilts, but it took some time for me to be able to do that.
Love the fabrics, the colors and the pattern. Great job!
Thank you for the lovely responses. What an eye opener, as now I understand there are different opinions of what Scrappy is. So, I was planning to make myself complete a totally scrappy quilt that would make me crazy in the process, now I know I'm not going to torture myself....will just have to donate those scraps.
Very pretty and cheerful!! Love all the color!
It's a beautiful quilt. I'm a scrap quilter at heart. And I do Bonnie Hunter Quilts. My scraps are now in good order. BUT I also do planned quilts every year as well. AND make the Bonnie Quilts as Leader/Ender's as she suggests. Just throw caution to the wind, pick one of her free patterns and go for it. Just grab and sew.
Gorgeous for sure ! Love the scrappy-as said before the more you do the more you will enjoy the scrappy !
Love your controlled scrappy quilt. I'm like you, I admire all of the quilts I see on Bonnie Hunter's site and I love her descriptions- but I just can't believe that mine would be so beautiful as hers if I would just let go-not yet, anyway.
Love your scrappy Jacob's Ladder quilt. It is a nice pattern to make either scrappy or not.
I LOVE it! The fabrics are gorgeous!

I'm working on 2 sets of log cabin blocks. #1 is red, white and blue for a wounded soldier at Ft. Hood in Killeen,TX.
#2 is totally scrappy for a foster/sick child through The Linus Connection, all of the quilts stay in central Texas. The quilt in the picture is another of my log cabin quilts, this one went to a child. There are over 200 fabrics in this quilt. The treadle is a 1917 White Rotary, its my current favorite. I learned to use a treadle machine in 2007 and have 5 treadles now. Sharon (treadle quilter) |
I love scrappy quilts, the more fabrics the better. Not a problem with me at all. Your quilt is beautiful.
Love this quilt! Can you tell us the pattern you used please?
