Convex Illusion
2 Attachment(s)
Here is my Convex Illusion, one of my favorite quilts I have ever made. I absolutely love it. Just need to get it bound. Unfortunately, my quilter did not love it. She did not baste it enough when she started quilting it and since everything in this quilt is on the bias, when she was about halfway done she realized things were slipping towards one corner. She called me and apologized all over the place because she was not going to get it done by the time I wanted it because she would have to remove all the stitching she had done and rebaste it better and then requilt it. I told her not to worry about the timing (I had wanted it for our local quilt show), that there would be another show where I could display it. It took her a while to get it done, but it was worth the wait. I had been concerned about holes in the fabric from the previous quilting, but she did an awesome job of requilting it. I am also attaching a picture of the actual stitchout design so you can see it better. Isn't it fabulous?

Such a beautiful quilt. It looks like an optical illusion. Very nice of your quilter to inform you of the issues and I am sure she appreciated your patience. For sure it was worth the wait.

It is stunning ! - both front and back!

It most definitely is beautiful!! how large it is?

Gorgeous!!! I love this quilt also. I bought the pattern after seeing one on display at our state fair last year. How did the process go for you? I've hesitated jumping in. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions? You did a wonderful job!

Wonderful!!

Stunning! I have this convex on my bucket list; like Anniedeb, I'd love to hear how the process went for you. The quilting pattern is perfect and kudos to your quilter for recognizing a problem and fixing it.

Oh my! I LOVE the quilt! I have drooled over the patterns like this for a long time, but haven't attempted one...have just done some simple 3D's that I have't quilted yet. Maybe the day will come soon....maybe....
Absolutely gorgeous! I have the pattern too - sounds like a lot of us do - but have yet to attempt it. Yours is beautiful.
Wow! That’s extraordinary! Love it. The quilting is the perfect complement and someday your creation will win a Best in Show. I’m calling it now!
Good job!!
A gorgeous quilt and beautiful quilting too.

What a spectacular quilt.
Wonderfully done! I really love the illusion-it is perfect!
Wow... great quilt that's totally different. You and your long arm quilter must be patient women. This is one of those quilts that I enjoy looking at, but would never attempt.
Absolutely fantastic! I have pattern for similar one and the fabric, just need the time !
WOW!! That is really fantastic! You both did a great job.
That is really awesome. One I'd be tempted to make but not nearly that level of quilting. I have one now that I've had done for months that I can't figure out how I want to quilt it; a panto doesn't seem appropriate. I keep hoping inspiration will hit me - you know - like a bolt of lightning? (just not literally) One of those 'ah ha' moments.

Wow, wow, wow! What a beautiful quilt. Hats off to your LAer. Not all of them would have unstitched and redone. You did an excellent job on it.

Thank you everyone for your kind words about my Convex Illusion. Nativetexan, it is approximately 56 x 56. It will soon be hanging on my living room wall.
For those of you who have the pattern, jump in and get started. The absolute hardest part of this quilt was picking the fabrics. It took me a long time to decide what colors I wanted and then find all the fabrics I wanted for it. It is all strip piecing (like a bargello). The triangular pieces are just strip pieced squares that you cut in half. This is my favorite type of quilt to make: Looks so hard and complicated, but is really very, very easy. Just take your time and mark your rows after you cut them so you don't mix them up. The second picture is not the actual back of the quilt (that is brown), but just the design my quilter sent me to show what she would be doing. I will pass your compliments on to her. I am lucky to have such a talented quilter. It sure wouldn't look that this if I had quilted it myself. |
Wow! That's gorgeous! I've got that pattern on my bucket list~ :)
WOW, that's an incredible quilt and the quilting is fantastic!
Amazing vision. I'm glad you were happy with the quilt in the end.
Stunning quilt!
Absolutely gorgeous, quilt and quilting. You both did a fabulous job.
Fantastic quilt---this is one on my bucket list.

I took the class. If you take your time, clear your mind, give yourself lots of space, read and re-read the instructions and take one step at a time, you will do fine. I decided to leave it as a "star" and hung it above my bed with little nails to hold it on the wall.
If you run into trouble, this board is amazing. I've made hand bags that were more difficult, some are UFO's. |
