Just finished a "drag around quilt" for my great grandson's 2nd birthday. I used corduroy fabrics from his great great grandmother's old skirts and leftover corduroy fabrics from when I made them. The backing is an Andover flannel fabric I purchased in 1987. I did not buy anything new for this quilt. It is not a "work of art" just a utility quilt designed for hard use. Finished size is 45" x 60". The seams were pressed flat and I used a herringbone stitch and stitched in the ditch to reinforce the seams. I then machine quilted diagonally across the squares. I just might make one for my bed since if the quilt is kid proof it might be dog proof.

You've made a super quilt! It is very pretty and looks like it will wear like iron!

Terrific! I like that idea and the price is fab. I'm thinking a good cover for my dog beds.

It is very rich looking. the first pic makes it look like velveteen. I like the simple grid quilting.

Oh man would I love to snuggle under that today!! It looks so warm and cozy. Lovely quilt and an instant heirloom ... pre-worn by Grandma and re-made by a Great Grandma.
Curious ... with the weight of the corduroy and the flanel, did you even both to use batting, and if so what? |
I have always wanted to make a corduroy quilt. Yours is simply beautiful and cuddly!
|
Love it!
|
What a good idea. That's a great looking quilt. Bet it will hold up to a lot of love and hard wear.

Cuddly :-P

Give your machine innards a good cleaning several times during the sewing and machine quilting process. The corduroy creates a lot of lint. With the next one I do I will use polyester thread in both the bobbin and needle. I used several colors and thread types and the cotton theads created more lint also.

I LOVE this! I'm very into frugality and this is what I call "richly frugal". It's beautiful and tactile, and I know he will love it!
|
I used some poly hi loft batting that I had for years and never opened. That is why the quilt is "puffy". The poly batting was sort of nasty to work with but it worked.Did not have enough Quilters Dream cotton pieces left over from previous projects.

Love it!!

looks very warm!

I'm a fan!

Love the quilt!! I have a lot of corduory fabric and was thinking about making a quilt out of it. What size block and seams did you use in yours? I need a way to use up the fabric and I think you just showed me the way...lol I just bought me a LQS and am learning how to make pretty consistant patterns free motion with it. I have a queen-sized quilt to quilt for my grandson and a king-sized quilt to quilt for a paying customer. I made both quilt tops, too. I would post a picture but I don't know how.
It was -18 here last night and I can't even get out any of my doors to get outside. I have snow drifts 5 to 6 ft. deep. Marquita |
that's really nice! It's a great utility quilt, and made with so much love from family fabrics. That makes it even more special.
|
That looks great! And I bet it's warm too!
|
I love it!

I cut the blocks at 5 1/2 inches. They were sewn with 1/4 seams and I pressed the seams open. I used the herringbone stitch to reinforce the seams so they would not separate. The blocks were sewn together in alternating directions so they would reflect the light in different ways. Using so many different types of corduroy was a challenge because some of them were very stretchy. If they got out of "whack" I just trimmed them to the size I wanted or eased them into the next block. Of course some of the corners did not match well, but the herringbone stitch helped to hide the boo boo's.

Pretty, bright colors. A very durable quilt. Kids love taking their quilts with them wherever they go.
|
Thank you! I now know what to do with all my corduory fabric!!

well, I think it's a work of art and beautiful!
|
I love it. I might need to make a few of these.
|
Looks just like the cabin quilt I have. Love it. Comfort quilt.
