I know when I see your posts that I'm going to be looking at something fantastic, and you've done it again. Simply beautiful.

I have to ask. The edges look different ... does this quilt have a traditional binding or did you finish the edges differently? It could be a trick of the photo, but I don't see a binding.

Sue, you are right - the quilt does not have a binding. I always close my quilts in the traditional way quilters from Wales and Northern England did it: with the knife edge. When the quilting is finished I cut all three layers back to the same length (1 inch apart from the outermost quilting line). Next I shorten the batting 1/2 inch. The "seam allowance" of the backing is now folded around the edge of the batting, the top fabric is also folded to the inside. Than I sew a line of simple running stitches to close the edges. Very simple - but effective. It fits perfectly to that kind of quilts and it's the traditional "British" way of closing them.

I am completely self taught. At the time when I started hand quilting 23 years ago there were no videos or classes here in my area. I learned from books and by trial and error. The only suggestion I can give is to find your own way of quilting, find the notions that works for you and practice, practice, practice. One thing still helps a lot: I don't have to spend much time on piecing the tops and finding the right fabrics. I can focus on the hand quilting! :)
