WOW I know how time consuming those would be... they are beautiful.

I'll look up the patterns, if I can still find them after all these years. I know one or two were in books, and the others were pamphlets; but I'll try to find the names.

I've made 6 although there are only 5 of us. I originally made DH's really simple and when the rest were done, it looked out of place. So I made him a new one. The first two I made while on bedrest with my twin girlies and the others as the family grew/changed.

I understand what you mean by out of place. The stocking (with the old fashion Santa) I made for one of my sons. Now it looks out of place with the others, and the one that I'm stitching now for his wife, so I have been thinking about making him a new one.

Unbelievably beautiful, what work you put into these, they are gorgeous!

moonwolf47 12-07-2010 04:42 PM

Beautifully done! When eyes were better used to do counted cross stitch myself. Your stockings are terrific!

Mine is the sewing room and my son's is the library in this series, the girls were teddy bears and rocking horses, they were so worth the time they took, I consider them family heirlooms! Yours are beautiful!

I still do alot of counted cross stitch - it so relaxes me.

gangles 12-07-2010 06:40 PM

Stunning!

Actually the patterns are from different sources. The little boys room with all the toys came from Better Homes and Gardens Cross Stitch & Country Crafts July/Aug 93. the Beary Christmas is from Leisure Arts, the bear on the rockinghorse under the tree is from Leisure Arts 1989. The old fashion Santa and the three children pearing from around a tree to see Santa are from the Christmas Keepsakes book by Leisure Arts 1990. The deer and Santa's Workshop are from the bookChristmas Stockings in Cross-Stitch by Better Homes and Gardens and Cross Stitch & County Crafts. I couldn't find the pattern for the little girls room but I'm sure it came from Better Homes and Gardens also.

And while I looked for the above patterns, I found two other stocking patterns from Better Homes and Gardens that I had forgot I had. Guess I'm set for at least two more stockings!

And while I found

Thank you, I have found that at 62 these are easier to stitch if I work on them during daylight hours. So I carry the stitching with me to outdoor activities. It takes longer to complete a project but it's much easier on my eyes.

I made my 2 oldest Granddaughters 24 &22 theirs when they were small, My grandson his, then came the step granddaughter 16, I just finished this year, now I have a 10 month old greatgrandson started, but sadly to say he won't get it this year, first one on 18 count and it's a hard one, but should have it ready for him next year. They look so forward to seeing what's in them every year. You use to be able to walk into any Joann's, Hancocks, Michaels or Hobby Lobby and find several choices, I've had to order offline recently, cause no one has them in the stores here anymore. What happened to the counted cross-stitch stockings, I even checked out Hershners and they didn't offer many either. I really liked yours.

Very pretty. I used to cross-stitch before I started quilting so I can appreciate the hours of work involved in these lovely stockings.

I have a pattern for a baby with a bassinet on it. It is in and old Cross Stitch and Country Crafts magazine. There is a whole set of stockings. Someof the ones you have pictured ar in there.

adrianlee 12-07-2010 11:25 PM

Love your counted cross stitch stockings. Just beautiful.

wvdek 12-07-2010 11:27 PM

Your stockings are wonderful. I know how much work goes into them as I used to do x-stitch. No longer enjoy it and hard on my eyes.
My DD made me a needlepoint stocking yuears ago when she was in college. I cherish it as will your recipients.

rona thickpenny 12-08-2010 12:40 AM

breath taking .

Nell 12-08-2010 01:56 AM

Thank you, so very much!

twinkie 12-08-2010 05:15 AM

Those are so beautiful. I know you are proud. What an heirloom gift for your family.

jojosnana 12-08-2010 01:30 PM

What a beautiful job you have done. I am sure your family will cherish them for many years to come. I had to give up cross stitching. Way to small for my eyes.

dawn payne 12-08-2010 01:57 PM

Oh my gosh! I've never seen this type; they're wonderful!

butterflies5518 12-08-2010 05:54 PM

I noticed too that this year there aren't any Christmas stocking kits, cross stitch or felt, so disappointed.

Calico Grammy 12-08-2010 06:24 PM

WOW! Being a cross-sticher myself, I know how much work went into those. They are absolutely beautiful and keepsakes for decades to come. I loved seeing them....thanks!

stitchofclass2 12-08-2010 06:50 PM

Wow! Those are gorgeous. I have done counted crosstitch and I know how long it takes. They are truly "a gift".

JudithAnn 12-08-2010 07:06 PM

Wow! They are beautiful and I'm sure they will be family heirlooms.

marmalade 12-11-2010 04:40 PM

They are destined to become family heirlooms! I am imagining a lot of time and love in each stocking. They are all beautiful.

Annya 12-13-2010 01:23 AM

I love the one with all the dolls on it. I collected dolls but have slowed that hobby. Now I either Applique, cross stitch or embroidery to fill my day. They are all great.

tobylehnj 12-14-2010 01:14 PM

They look beautiful. I have made the same ones, well, almost. Each photo, the stocking on the left is for my son, husband and my daughter.
I see you have a quilt hanging in one of them. I have one with a Singer sewing machine and a quilt hanging on the back wall with a cross stitch frame and thread on the side and a basket with yard and knitting needles on the floor at the toe of the stocking.... I also made one for my two grandsons and two grand-daughters. Each different. The one for my daughter-in-law has an old fashion stove with pies on the table. She is the baker... I love cross stitch, but then I never get to my quilting done .... Maybe another day.....

Lynneander 12-14-2010 01:38 PM

Those stockings are truly a work of art! I do counted cross as well and know the hours you have spent making these fabulous stockings!
